whats fast and comfy?
#1
having tested an evoVII i have realised that after the TVR nothing is going to FEEL very quick, so i will settle for quite quick and comfy instead of very quick and plastic/cheap (evo)
so whats the feeling out of stuff like:
BMW 330
S4
S type 4 V8
do these feel nippy?

I'd go for the S4 out of that lot.
But the downside is...they're all pretty conservative..albeit fast, but very smooth delivery, so the impression of speed is small.

We had a standard S4 Avant and it never felt 'nippy', did pull well on the motorway though. Didn;t like lack of communication from brakes and steering, cack gearchange (quickshift modded within a week though)nor the standard leather seats which wern't very supportive at all.
Chuckles
Edit - mine was a my99, new one is bound to be better as I found the My02 S3 was a big step forward in driver dynamics, new S4 must be better again! Hopefuly

Cayenne Turbo - looks like a barn but accelerates quicker than a Boxster S and Evo mag got it around a track faster than an M3....
Went to Oulton Pk last week and the instructor said he'd had a go in an E55 AMG Merc and it was the fastest thing he'd been in without stickers on the door! He said he spent the entire lap with the trac control off while looking out of the side window. Fine if you're not paying for the tyres!

My M5.
Fast, Comfy and Communicative. Recently regained top spot in Evo magazines "The Knowledge", as best big saloon car. Has better bite and turn in than Evo7 or 8 according to a number of journos. Handles beautifully for a car weighing 1800kg!
It's the best car I've ever owned. Just wsh it did more mpg! LOL

Interesting about the TVRs since i have never seen one on track that could go round corners fast, look and sound awesome and go in a straight line.
M5s are an amazing piece of engineering probably the best car BMW has ever made when you take into acount its size and weight.
Outgoing S4 is the worst car i have ever purchased, wanted to hand it back instantly, a ream of mods just about made it drivable, the RS4 wasnt alot better.
If you want the explosive aceleration feal try cars that dont have alot of body work or any accoustic deadening, VX220 turbo should be interesting. Sub 5 sec 60 in an ironing board.

seriously...my mate has a BMW 330 sport and it feels dog slow when compared to my evo...The BMW wins hands down in terms of interior quality, spec, mpg, service interval,etc,etc....but performance was pants i thought.

I've just been driving a 330i sport touring - It was quite quick, but the handling in the wet was superb...switch the traction control off and it becomes quite entertaining.
Admit it's not a quick as the M3 , but you can fit a dog in the back.

My car swats TVRs' with no problem... but it doesn't feel fast... just smooth and quiet... so if thats what you want spend £10k to £12k and get 190mph, sub 5s' 12+ quarters... yet drive around in quiet comfort then nothing comes close... I am building the 3rd such car for a friend and if you want to know how to do it then later this year there will be a big piece on the TIF with all the instructions on how... but they are discrete and not at all showy... they cost less to run than a Scoob and are the most reliable superfast car I know of...

The bird at 19 Sorry couldn't resist that I'll get my coat...
On a serious note I'd say either a nice AMG Merc or M5. Both spacious and comfy, with all the creature comforts of an executive lounge.
Nath
PS: Or something that corners well

your numbers dont add up.
190mph, sub 5s' 12+ quarters
dont be a muppett, you have a super car top speed, but dont have the acceleration [sp]
what is fast & comfy depends who is doing the judging & your budget
agree with the BMW 540I, serious bit of car, Holden as already mentioned held a M5 for most of the back to back testing & has a great Chevy V8 but I am biased towards the GM V8
try a GMC lightening [yes the pickup truck] it will waste a lot of cars, including scoobys
before you ask no that wont be my next car, divorce pending it will be Harley Davidson F150 pickup

2 + 0 + 7 = 9 your mental age ?
stop being an idiot
call me bodge if you like, I have been called a lot lot worse
where is your evidence of these numbers ?
I would like to see them, proper evidence not just you typing them in, scan in some timeing slips, some rolling road graphs, show me some evidence.
otherwise I am not interested
put up or shut up

Tiggs,
sorry to sound like a stuck record but the Lotus Carlton would be a perfect option. Forget what you hear about age, this is still the fastest production saloon out there by far!!!
They took the latest M5 and an old lotus onto an autobhan last year. The reason being that they reckoned the new M5 would leave the lotus standing but the lotus would have it at top end so a few miles was decided as a fair test.
Results......after quarter of a mile the old Lotus had pulled out so much on the M5 that the test / race was never repeated or completed!!!
Repairs and servicing is expensive so make sure you get a good one. If you do find one let me know as a chap in the UK has kept records on evey UK car ever sold , so should be able to tell you a little about its history and treatment,

so you have admitted your number dont add up fine.
but you are not shutting up or producing the evidence
all you have to do is prove it with evidence or just shut up about it, its not hard
