Changed the Oil in the Car today. Simple job. Done it for years.

Jack car up... hold on a sec... what's that? Around my sump plug is rubber sealant. I find it strange and think back to who changed the Oil last....A main dealer as it was still under warranty, last October. Anyway, I get on with the job in hand.

Once the oils' drained I remove 98% of the rubber sealant and pop the sump plug back in. Drop the jack and top up with Oil.

One last visual check to ensure no leak. S***. A leak. Jack up. Clean area with cloth only to discover that the oil ain't coming from the plug but a hairline crack immediately below the bolt. Now I realised why the rubber sealant was there. To stop the damn oil leaking!!

So the last time it was serviced, by a main dealer, as it was still under warranty, I paid £180 for a muppet to overtighten the oil sump plug and as a result I have a hairline crack in my oil sump.

I saved a sample of the oil, recovered most of the rubber sealant. However.... what's the realistic chances of the dealer holding their hands up and saying "It's a Fair Cop"??

I'll be on the phone first thing Monday morning.

Anyone had similar experiences? What was the outcome?

I dont think you will get anywhere mate...

Dealers are total W8NKERS, and in my experience once they have got your money, they aren't interested!!
