Been quite tempted by one of these for a while now for some reason !! lol.
I know there are a few 172 drivers who come on this bbs.
Anyone gone from a Scoob especially say an STI to a 172?
Are there horrendous things to look out for?
Any usual Renault problems? or are they pretty hassle free?
Am going to test drive one this weekend to see if I like it

I have an STI8 and a 172 Clio.
There is no comparison between the two and you shouldnt try to. The Clio is all about progressive power, starts at about 3.5K revs and goes all the way to the redline but it doesnt kick you hard in the back like the STI does.
The driving position is out of a Massey Furgerson tractor, and you will get plenty of little rattles etc from the dashboard and the window.
The dealer will be crap, he will promise the earth and then not deliver (much the same as every other dealer in the world)
However......what you will get is a little pocket rocket which will sit on a new wave WRX's bum up to 100 MPH, corners like its on rails and has more standard equipment for the money than virtually anything on the road.
Oh and all this and it will still return between 28 (v.hard driving) and 37 ( motorway and general) MPG
Do not however try to compare it to an STI. The STI is at least 2 stages ahead.
and here speaks a man who had two 172's but sold one for the STI
hope this helps

The Clio Cup is 1 sec faster to 100mph than a 03 WRX !
However the WRX would be quicker with a full decat !!
Love my Cup and have to say my dealer is top notch, had a few issues and he is on the ball.

'I take it zedder has a new wave WRX ....haha'
I wouldn't be that daft Gary Anyway, i wouldnt want to have a pile of French junk like the Clio Cup, even if one came out, bit me on the nose and couldn't be removed for eternity. They are simply souped up, 'Kevvy' supermarket trolleys which will be worth jack in a few years and look w@nk.

A MINI COOPER S WORKS manufacured in 2002 in Electric Blue. Scalped a Cup on the first day of ownership, so i know it's performance is decent. I got to the University of Oxford by the way hence being a student. I work in IT as well.

My MINI is faster than a Cooper S Works and I struggle to keep up with a Clio Cup its all down to weight..
A lad I know with a standard Clio Cup has done a 14.3 1/4 mile and continually does mid 14's 1/4 mile without any problems..
Try getting your Cooper S Works to do that..

Ok, admittedly i raced from a standstill to 85 mph on a dual carriageway the first day i got my car and i was 3/4 of a length up on him, and he was creeping on me. I pulled in because there was plod 650km down the road with a laser gun (LRC100 signalled i was being targetted). I slowed, he went on to 120+mph prove a point and got nicked. Clios are faster to 100mph than a MCS Works. Fact. They offer a different hot hatch experience, which represents regression as opposed to evolution. Cars are getting swifter and safer, the clio is the diametric opposite. The MCS and Clio are like chalk and cheese. I do like the fact though that i can ride in some air conditioned comfort and still hold my head high against a stripped out french shopping trolley.

That CD drawer trick is ace - scared the sh*t out of me sat here in the semi-darkness!!
Zelder bloke - re air conditioned comfort versus french stripped out crap: you can now specify the cup with climate for an extra £650. Sort of misses the point though, I think.
