Had one for 6 weeks now. Going from 2.0l V6 was weird? The engine was very smooth always through the range the ATR is refined at low revs and does pull quite well up to 5800 and alot harder past there, quite noisy but well worth it. The handling for FWD is sh*t hot, even better when its raining, if it out of warrenty make sure that the 4-5th syncro is ok, ask Pie_and_Chips as he has one and it getting the gbox sorted at the mo. They need to be run on super and/or optimax,
Honda build quality is good, they are reasonably rare compared with scoobies. Look www.forum.hondarevolutions.com/
good bunch of lads here and loads of info.
Make sure that the tyres are in pairs, these cars need to be maintained, they love drinking oil if driven hard, so make sure that the service book is full of stamps with history.
There are alot of scratched abused ones about i saw about 14 cars before buying mine and it was worth waiting.
I bougth from a main dealer but I would say that you shpould not be paying more than 12k tops..
Where in the country are you?

Cheers guys, I'll check out the forum.
It's a 99V with 35k and I know the guy, he's on the Lancer Forum and he's just replaced the Accord with a brand new M3, not that I'm jealous.
It's full history, services 2k ago, always been run on Optimax and has good tyres.
I'll let you know how I get on.
Cheers,
Phil

You could do a lot worse than buy a car of Mosi, he's only had it five minutes.
As for the car itself, a very well kept automotive secret if you ask me, best it stays that way huuussshhhhh

Currently thinking about about either Accord or Civic Type R to replace my destroyed MY02.
Any ideas which to go for ? Which gives the better overall fuel consumption as I do appox 60 miles a day and don't reaaly want to buy a diesel !!

I get about 30mpg from my ITR DC5. Great replacement for the scooby, every bit as quick although it is a rather harsh ride!

Think I will be booking another test drive in an Accord this weekend then. Drove one a couple of years ago and liked it but did not need a 4 door car at the time and they seem a good second hand buy at the moment with the new shape accord out now,
sjskyline I take it your ITR is a personal import as didn't think that they where offically sold by Honda yet, Any problems with Honda servicing it ?

the ACR is a nice car, but came second in a head to head done by Evo mag against a scoob. Its FWD, so a bit of an understeer wagon - but its still a complete package. I owned a Teg, get one of those instead

Great car, so well made compared to a Subaru.
Trophy Blonde had a 51 plate, and I loved using it. And the car
If you are into technical B roads rather than smooth A roads, I'd re-consider though. Suspension is too smooth tarmac focused for "jiggly' surfaces.
On such roads, my STi7 was far more planted, even at speeds over 30mph more than Accord. ie 90 in her car felt a LOT more dangerous than, er, 120 in mine.

make sure that the 4-5th syncro is ok,
I was shocked to read that. The 5th gen Honda Prelude Type S (now defuct) used the same engine the H22A. Fundamentaly the same engine that went into the 'ordinary' Prelude but with a more aggressive cam profile and a little port and polishing. I owned a Dec' 96 type S and it had the syncro problem as well.

Both mine (now sold) and a mates ATR had gearbox rebuilds under warranty. Mine was crunching 3rd in high rpm changes, his was doing 4th and reverse was a bugger to select. Both were fine after rebuild with modified selector forks. Both cars also had condensation/water in the fog lights which was fixed with a vent kit.
