Hi,

My old man is considering buying a 2002 530 Sport. He is just wondering what the depreciation impact will be when the new 5 series is available or do you think the current model has already taken a hit as everyone knows the new shape is out soon?

Its got a decent spec (comms pack, etc, etc), low mileage for £28,000.

Cheers,
Chinnybloke

is he buying it to keep for a while (5yrs)???

if so, why worry about depreciation it happens!!!

if he only wants it for a year/or two, he should wait a couple of months.

IMHO, of course.....

I reckon he'll keep it for about 3 years, so hopefully he should be pretty safe.

I'm not so sure about the new one. The new 7 series certainly hasn't grown on me yet so if it is anything like that I reckon he is best with the current model.

Although people are divided on the way the new 5 looks, all the reviews point to it being a really good car.

Theerfore the old 5 is likely to take a hit very soon.

I made this mistake when I got a second had E36 coupe.

If he can hold off then he should be able to pick up a bargain. There are also likely to be lots of old 5 owners trading up for new 5s, so will flood the market.
