GTI

As it says, (1.3DX or maybe 1.5) i know there not very fast but brother thinking of one for first car. Have any pictures (inside and out if possible) what to look out for, reliable?

I've had a 1.6 ESI and a 1.6 VTi of this generation. Both good cars, and I took both from about 60,000 to 100,000 miles. The ESi (single cam vtec engine, 7000 redline, 125bhp) was less reliable because the head gasket went a couple of times. The VTi (twin cam vtec, 8000 redline, 160bhp) was far better and needed nowt but servicing and tyres. Great build quality but boring/bland interiors on all but vti models - all others are pale grey plastic. Look ace with big wheels when lowered slightly.

on the hatchback look for paint wear, it always seem to happen on the bottom half of the tail gate where the rear window sits when closed on the passengerside and rust round the license plate area.
on the rear arches also, especially where the bumper meets the rear quarter.

Also the window motors seem to be really tired at this stage.
On the 4 doors look at the front door windows for gaps, the rubber round the edges seem to droop, less on the 3 doors.

The lumination for the center console temperature, fan setting, ash try light seem to go aswell.

Check the rear calipers also as they are prone to seizing.

GTI--I don't think you should go any less than the 1.5 Lsi coz of the dramatic decrease in the interior spec at dx level.
In the Lsi you should get sunroof, electric window's , mirrors, electric wing mirrors, rev counter and materials on the seat, over the Dx. Just my 2 pence worth.
