<quandry> I was thinking selling my Type R and buying a new STI, and a mate of mine knows someone who has a mint low mileage 993 and he wants a scooby.
I am awaiting full spec/details/history of the porker - anyone here know much about the 993 (pitfalls etc) or any websites where I can get a good insight on them ??

993 - excellent car, I know a bit about them, my Brother currently has a 996 Carerra 2, prior to that he had 993 and Boxster 2.7, my Dad has run a 924 for years too.
Looking at getting a 2.7 or S Boxster myself in about 3 months time.
The 993 is an expensive car to maintain properly, depending on driving style they can be particularly heavy on brakes, tyres and especially clutches. Crankcase oil seals are prone to minor leaks (not too serious, but oil eventually gets onto clutch requiring new clutch).
I'd definitely get a full inspection (preferably by Porsche dealer) , and only buy with a full history. Mileage isn't that important but history and evidence that the mechanicals have been properly maintained is.
On the plus side if you buy a late 993 the air cooled engine and rest of the car has got a good 10 years of development behind it (not to mention the 964 and 930s before it) so pretty much all the faults have been ironed out through continued development. And the mechanicals are virtually bullet proof as a result !
There are loads of specialist websites around... but try www.911virgin.com to get a feel for used prices, they also have some good general advice.
