Alfa GTV/Spider - Opinions please

My daughter Jennie, wants to sell her trusty MR2 and fancies a GTV or Spider. I would really appreciate any thoughts, comments and recommendations regarding these cars. I have to admit I have always liked them but until now have had no dealings with any. I've driven a couple (2litre) and they seem quite nice - quick steering, powerful brakes, nice gearchange etc. (although the performance is a bit lame after the Scoob!)
One thing which concerned me was that on two "P" plate examples the hydraulic lifters were very noisy and did'nt seem to fully pressurise? - one example having only 34k on the clock. a couple of other slightly more recent examples were noisy on start-up but quietened down. Was there a mod. to cure the problem?
I hope someone out there has some good experience of these cars?

dont know much but look great and ive considered one many times, make sure cam belt has been done, cost over a grand at main dealer, not much less from specialist.
