Ok, I know it wouldn't be cheap, but I imagine fuel and insurance is a little worse than the Scooby (which I now don't own )
Are they as reliable as they are made out? From what I gather the engine and drivetrain is way under stressed, as standard. Do they have any probs? Mileage any worry?
Might look at one in a years time, but like to research early Have seen non V-Spec GTR ones go for 16k with 50k miles.
MB
(And I know they are big and heavy, but its just rude to own a Skyline)

Cheers guys,
Blow Dog, do you still have the R34? That is the most stunning one ive seen
Good to hear thee are reliable, really would like one within the next year. Trouble is, I used to worry about the scoob being vandalised, but a Skyline!? Its a relief owning the golf in some respects
Ive just been looking at some clips of an R32 doing 160mph in 8.9 seconds (Australia?) . Unreal.
Must have one...

It really does depend where you take your car...
Routine maintainance is *cheaper* (considerably so) for my GTR compared to my previous Impreza... The downside is there are only a couple of places I would ever take my skyline and neither are near me (fortunately Rod Bell is only 15 mins from where lots of my family live and by far the most reasonably priced Skyline expert!)
Since June last year I've done 24k in mine and its been totally reliable - as Cem said they do need to be properly maintained and I'd always look for one with an RB Motorsport/GTaRt/Abbey history over one which has been serviced by a none skyline specialist. Generally these people know the cars they service very well.
As with any supercar its worth checking it properly, and be aware that panels and some parts aren't cheap! But for the money they are excellent!
With respect to vandalism, I live in Bristol, which has a fair bit of vandalism, and generally park the skyline on the street! I have never had any trouble, and local youths seem to offer it more 'respect' than anything else!
On the downsides you do get the odd nutter intent on bowing down at the car

Ta for that,
I never had much bother with the scoob, other than the odd person spitting on it, or giving ****** signs
I did get a lot of respect from it (it was a nice one!) people coming over to chat, kids waving / bowing / praising / walking into lamp posts etc...
I am going to save my pennies heavily and go for an R33. I gather there's not much to be gained by going for a V-Spec? Also, does the R33 have computer controlled traction gizmos / G force meter etc? (this would all be nice as I like gadgets!)
Ta all,

The R33 doesn't the MFD (display think with G-meter etc- you'll need an R34 for that), but it does have the clever Diffs and a row of regular guages...
As for Vspec vs NonV, I have a none V - acknowledged as a better road car setup than the V, but the V will have the edge on the track as the torque slit controller is faster.

MB - I've since sold my Blue and bought another one:
More information here but basically it's an R34 V-Spec II Nur. It's currently due to land in UK in late April

Just as an example of servicing costs - I picked my car up yesterday after the 48k service, an MOT and some exhaust work... The bill was £250 all in
Can't argue with that really can you!

Can only echo Cem etc.
Bayside blue R34 VSPEC from new 10,000 enthusiastic miles (8000 at 400BHP) and it hasn't missed a beat. Most expensive service was £450 but that included some new brake pads!!!!
Only problem I have ever had was down to leaving the car in the garage for far too long when away (over a month)during which time a mouse chewed through a wiring loom Go on get one, having owned impreza's and the like I can assure you a GTR will pull your string like no other.
Shame I don't get to use mine often enough..............

Designed for the arcade generation!! The guy off Top Gear was soo true when he sad that!!
My uncle has a 2002 Nissan GTR V-spec2 in red!! Dynoed at 400hp'ish with the help of a new exhaust..new chip and other realitivily minor mods!! $105,000 NZ$ Brand New!! Now has 26,000km on the clock and no probs!! And he thrashes it more then his old WRX and yet it has had no probs unlike the scooby!
Great thing about GTR's is the straight 6 engine and the ceramic turbo's, also gearboxes are built like a datson 1200 (bulletproof)
Can handle power increases up until a certain point!!
(Unlike GTO's)
If you asked for my opinion...I would rather be different then be another WRX or EVO owner!!
Get a 1982 Corolla RWD and stick in a Toyota Hilux diff and a Nissan 2.0L Turbo!! And watch it fly!!
There is a guy in my town who owns a Datson 1200 Coupe and he stuck the 2.0L Turbo Nissan in it...and it leaves WRX's for dead on tarmac!!

Brake disc......£500 a pop
I have had my R33 for nearly a year now....Service cost £350 at Abbey.Brake disc would have been £500 each but managed to get some nearly new 2nd hand ones...They are the only things I have come across that take the **** with price......
Cost me less to run than the Evo VI.

Shouldn't see them as a £16k car - but a £50k car second hand.
A Skyline will last you forever, if you make sure you maintain regular servicing - which isn't cheap. Especially if you plan on tuning it.
