pug 205 gti or suzuki swift?

205 Gti- its just cooler apart from anything else and has more cred with everyone from the Max Power brigade to racing drivers.
Plus you'll find a larger community dedicated to helping you with any problems you might have, cheaper parts.
The downside is they are fairly common still.

Going against the grain here but go for a Swift if its the 89F-91J shape your thinking of, as the very last shape came with a cat so slower, and a dodgy looking rear end. The 205 is a good car but I'm biased cos I used to have a Swift a long time ago, and it surpised alot of people how quick it was, certainly no slower than a 1.6 205. I think there better looking, have a sweet engine, also handle well and you don't see many on the road. If you put a Janspeed system and 4 branch on sound great at nearly 8000rpm and will be quicker than a 1.6Gti

Despite my problems which are detailed here.

We really do have a great laugh in the 205.
Wheelspin is one of its major problem. If you watch the video its spinning loads of the time, despite being down on compression, and having a Quaife ATB diff

205 all the way
Its much nicer looking, renouned handling (eg one of the best hot hatches ever handling wise), great engines, easy to maintain, loved by everyone etc etc etc
In fact, I've had more comments about my Pug and how nice it is in 2 months than I had about the scoob in 2 years
You know it makes sense
Another excuse for the pics!

I was thinking similar to you not long ago. It has to be the 205 despite all it's pitfalls (preferably with MI16 engine, fast road cams, twin carbs / throttle bodies etc etc.) That's what I'm looking into.

Another vote for the 205
Don't overlook the 309 GTI though - a bit cheaper insurance, same engine & very similar performance (Had a 309 for 5 years)
