Mines a UK MY99 with Prodrive extras, S plate reg'd end Dec 98 (nealy a 99!) 47k miles and full history.
The Golf is a 1.8T on an S (98 I think) with 40k miles and full history. Black 3 door.
I recokon his is £8500 athough he hinted at 10k without researching it.
I had a look, and couldnt see a MY99 for the £10,500 I want for mine.
Doesn't seen reasonable to get 2k change from a 22k motor vs a 17k one! (new price)
Thoughts appreciated.

I looked long and hard along the 1.8T Golf lines ... when I was looking 10k could buy you a W/X plate (5-6 weeks ago) so I think he is dreaming a bit!!!
I would say £2k to change sounds about right.
I ended up kicking the idea into touch and got a TT Roadster 225 instead!

Nah, I had given up trying to sell mine as I was just getting stupid offers. Some folk off here kept e-mailing asking for pics and a full spec, then 3 days later ask for the same thing and deny that they had been in touch before!! So, got my car serviced and lots of the annoying rattles sorted. It's now perfect again - better than when I bought it!!
Just been approached by a guy I know who would like to px his Ibiza Cupra with my Golf... silver with an APR chip and miltek exhaust. Tempting!!
Hope you get things sorted with yours

Cheers Mike,
I had a couple of messers too. Looked at the Golf earlier and was very impressed. Got the gap down to £1500, but going to push for a little more.

Ok,
Confused now, if you look mine up on Parkers as a 98 S it says £9500 for an A1, but I think that presumes its a MY98?
Mine seems to be one of the cheapest MY99's within 60 miles of me on the trader. The Golf prices vary massively, and basically this chap wants £9000 for a 99 S Golf turbo. Too much?
Opinions appreciated.

Cheers,
Ron, cash isn't the main issue, I did consider spending more. Its the running costs im worried about! The golf is very good on fuel and insurance etc. And with couple of tweaks, 200 bhp!
I was very impressed with it...

The servicing of the Golf will be buttons compared to your Scoob, expecially if you avoid main dealers and go for a specialist instead. You'll also get somewhere around 30mpg!!!
If you can get £1500 off the guy, then bite his arm off (or just take his keys off him )
They are similar aged cars, and the Golf, as I said above, will hold it's value much better than the Scoob. So, even with the Golf being a cheaper car new, they probably do equate to the same value 3 years down the line.
Have a look on http://www.seatenthusiasts.co.uk/newsite/index.php for info on tuning the 1.8T engine - the forum expecially. (this site is mainly SEAT, but there are more & more VW & Audi owners going on every day - I've been on there for about a year now!)
and www.jabbasport.com, or more specifically www.jabbasport.com/VW/VW_Models/vw_models.html#vw%20golf%20mk4
It won't be the same as a Scoob, but then it doesn't cost as much to run, and can made to be quick for not a lot of money!

Good choice mate
I was out for a spin in the chipped Ibiza Cupra on Saturday - it was phenomenal! I think I am going to go for it as it is in a different league to the Golf (170bhp in the Golf vs 197bhp in the Cupra) and the cupra has cruise, air con & part leather... and 2 years warranty left...
Hope you have fun in the Golf
