Unhappy

as title, a friend has a rover 400 series, its a 1995 model, with the 1.6i 16valve engine.

it has just failed the mot on the abs, need to get it sorted asap.
when the car ignition is on, the light is there as usual, but when the engine is started, it remains on instead of going out. it has happened for ages, we tried the abs, it doesnt work, just locks up

anybody have an idea what it may be? somebody said that the way the abs warning light behaves can give info on what is wrong etc

cheers
ian

Thumbs up

As mentioned, it's usually the wheel speed sensors that give trouble though some did knack the pumps...which cost billions of squids

Unplug the sensors and stick an ammeter accross them(on the sensor side), make sure there is resistance, if there is, chuck a voltmeter accross it, spin the hub and you should get a small voltage change...square waveIf you don't get either, you need a new sensor.

Hope that helps

Exclamation

My mums 1995 Rover 220 Coupe has this exact same problem so if you find out what the solution is I would be very interested to hear about it.

Did they do the model without ABS?- maybe you could just remove the bulb and get its MOT done somewhere else. Then it will be back on the road until you fix it
