Morning all,
I'm selling my scoob (as some may have noticed) due to the fact im living further from work etc...
An ideas whether they are more economical than the scoob? i would imagine so being an efficient NA engine, but just wanted to check. I get about 250 miles from £40 in the scoob.

Much cheaper running costs.
Unless you are being a hooligan, 30 + mpg is definately possible.
Servicing is much cheaper as well.
How about £123 for a 9,000 mile (IIRC) or 1 year service.
Try that in a Scoob..LOL...
Tyres cheaper as well.
Mods are horrifically expensive though, if you are going to do it right.

Agree with Diablo...
...and these things sound awesome, especially with induction kit and full system!! Not the most idle commuting tool though as the engine is noisy even at a steady 70/80 mph. At least in a Scoob you can be quiet if you try!!

I was interested in the Civic Type R. I currently own a STI Type R but am thinking about getting something which is cheaper to run.
What are they like on the motorway etc? as my Type R Scooby is doing about 4000rpm at 80mph ish, as wouldn't mind it being a little bit quieter (it has full scoobysport exhaust etc).
How often do they need to be serviced?

What about a Renault Clio 172/Cup. Pretty fast and averages 32-35mpg normal driving. Motorway cruising 80mph = just a tad under 4000rpm. I get 250 - 270 miles per full tank (55ltrs I think). Insurance it lowish considering the performance (£588 in medium risk area)

I used to commute 100 miles to York every day in an ITR, not too loud and good on fuel for the performance, averaged 33-36mpg, thats driving at around 70 all the way with the occasional 8000rpm thrash!! Buy one!!!

JONC - Is that mileage, 250-270, on the Clio? If so is that town driving, motorway or bit of both?
Just wondering as get 230 miles out of my Scoob driving about town. (it's a STI Type R)
Any one know where I can find out about service intervals/cost?

I have been looking at the Clio and also some early Elise's which both seem economical. W plate low mile 172's are around £8500 to £9500 which is within my budget. Lotus is 11k and would be nice for the summer, but I think I would worry about it breaking!
The integra is a real nice looker IMO, and am keen to try one.

Be aware that when driven 'enthusiastically' (it's hard not to in a 'teg) fuel consumption can easily go below 20mpg.
I was getting low 20's average in mine. Worth it for that engine and one of, if not the, best FWD chassis around.

Yes thats 250-270 miles with about 50/50 town and A roads, including a few blasts/sprints now and again. To fill up costs me £28 of Optimax which is about 35ltrs I think, I never drive till its virtually empty. I can get over 300 miles on a tank with motorway driving at a steady 70mph (which is quite boring actually!).

Tempting, do they punish most things? I've been consulting my housemates who seem to think its more of a girls car?! I quite fancy one for the money. (Although, as an engieer, i swore I would never buy a French car!)

I kept up with a scooby (ones before the bugeye make over. Couldn't see what it was as it had nothing on the boot except a large spoiler, but most likely a uk wrx I guess) over an A road up to 80mph. We both slowed down after that due to traffic, it didn't pull away at all. Back then only had a 1000 miles on the clock.
Cups are a little bit faster still, but IMO at the end of the day unless something has well over 250bhp not much will get away from a C172 conditions permitting, and will be down to driver skills or who has the biggest *****.
I quite supprised with the economy the trip computer never gone below 30mpg including hard driving. Track days would probably push it down to mid to low twenties. Most cars I've driven with this sort of performance are mid twenties with normal driving.

I have an Integra Type-R and the best I can get round town to a tank of Optimax £32 to fill is 180 miles and thats good as far as im concerned, my record is 210 but i've never had that again, anyway who drives normal for a full tank of fuel? not me!

I have a Clio Cup, I have just got back from Germany having done a 1000 mile round trip, The Cup handled it no problem and 34.9 MPG on the clock thats going 85-90mph.

I've been a honda fan for years, having had 3 vtec'd civics in the last 4 or 5 years, including a '93 vti dyno'd at 167bhp. I've always fancied an Integra, and now that decent ones have come below £10k I've been really tempted. I've test driven 3 in the last month, and then by accident spotted a 4 month old clio cup for sale in the local renault dealers last Thursday; thought "it looks a bit girlie, but I'll give it a try", took it for a test drive, and put my deposit down half an hour later. Picked it up last Saturday, and have been blatting around all over the place like a kid at christmas ever since. Just as raw as the 'teg, but the throttle response, steering and grip are like nothing I've experienced before (I've had a couple of 205 gtis in the past, too). Find one, have a drive and see what you think.

No got a Golf Tdi 110 now (yawn), Scooby to york every day?! I'd need to re-mortgage!! I'd like to buy another ITR, youve a good motor there (Got a good mpeg of it doing 0-150! :-)) Not really sure what to get, may look at a getting a 130tdi and re-mapping the boost - seems quite common..

I've had a MY97 scoob, and ITR and currently a Clio Cup. The Integra was definitely cheaper to run than the scoob. The Clio is very fast, handles very well, but has a fantastically awful driving position that does my **** in, and the gear change is at the bottom end of the league. It is cheap though, and cheap to run. In terms of straight line performance, I have tested both the ITR and the Clio with the AP22, and obtained virtually identical results, with the Clio being 0.1 seconds fatster in the 30-70 stint at 5.8 vs 5.9 seconds.
The Clio has more grip in the wet than the Integra, and it is easier to put the power down due to gear ratio differences and also to less brutal Vtec kick-in.
But, the Integra is mechanically in a different league. Driving position and seats are spot on, and gear change is awesome( in all Honda Rs ). The whole thing is on the whole a superior package, but then you have to remember it was a 20 grand car, and the Clio was 12995. So, I am going to RIP the seats out of it, and install a couple of Pro2000s instead, before I throw a wobbly.

WHILST WERE TALKING ABOUT INTEGRA'S CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT THE ITR IS LIKE FOR HEAD & LEG ROOM, IM CONSIDERING BUYING ONE BUT DONT KNOW IF I WILL FIT AS IM 6'2" WITH LEGS AS LONG AS HIGHTOWERS FROM POLICE ACADEMY. WITH THE ITR BEING A RARE BREED AND NOT MANY ABOUT ITS PROVING QUITE HARD TO FIND OUT IF I COULD BE FAIRLY COMFORTABLE IN ONE.

I'm 6ft 6 and have similarly proportioned legs.. I fitted in a 'Teg R fine, I just wish I could own one (I make do with a Legacy Turbo now!).

Just bought a 98 S ITR today from a honda dealership for £9k!
A good spec,low miles and all the benefits of it been an approved used honda.
