2000 Punto Sporting
#1
Hello all, i have just purchased the above car and pick it up mid week.
The car has a 100watt sub in the boot, as standard, was this standard or an optional extra, and also, what's the 'city' buttin all about then.
Also, has anyone owned a sporting, how do you rate the 1.2 16v engine?
Thanks

My ex used to have a R Reg Sporting as her own car and had a golf GTi as her compnay car, W reg. We only used to Golf for long journeys and loved driving the Punto. The engine was amazing for just a 1.2. Had a fair bit of grunt , sounded quite meaty too and hardly used any fuel. I'd not hesitate to have another one as it was a great car and never missed a beat which is more than can be said for that Golf ..

I've currently got a MkII sporting - although I'm trading it in on Thursday for a new CTR
Bought it new in 2001 and it really is a great car. Handles well (OK, nothing compared to an Imprezza, but not bad for a supermini) with slight understeer / neutral cornering. Not particularly quick, but as long as you keep the speed up through the corners you are fine.
I've tracked it several times (probably getting laughed at now), but it is fun - in fact in the wet it was usually quicker than Elises/Caterhams etc because the handling is so much more predictable through fast greasy corners where it takes a very good driver to hold a lightweight RWD car. Naturally in the dry you behave somewhat like a moving chicane for the faster cars!

We bought an HGT version last year. 1.8ltr twin cam, 130 BHP, its the wifes car, and a real flying machine, as one guy in BMW 328 found out when he tried to race us. He ended up backwards in a ditch...!
Were selling it soon (1 lady owner, 20,000 miles) full service etc etc) If anyone interested....drop me a note for full spec.
