Powerplant for a kit car
#1
I have a kit car as my second car...soon to be my third
It's a Nova, (looks a bit like a cross between a Miura and GT40), it's the bright green one in the Merseyside area in case anyone is wondering Anyways! I have VW Beetle power! And guess what? It sucks! Well...it's realiable, I batter the engine day and night, I call it a bitch, and I even slap it, no worries!
But I fancy more power, I was thinking...as my car is very light, (700kgs), would it be easy to get a bike engine in there? Anyone know anyone that could do it for me on the cheap? Anyone fancy having a crack at it? I hate getting my hands dirty!
Thanks gents

700 kgs is actually pretty heavy for a bike engine kit car, which tend to be more in the 400-500 range. You would probably find the lack of torque would really show up with something that "heavy", although it would still go very well with some revs on.
I don't know if it would fit in a Nova, but common value for money kit car engines are the likes of the K series and Ford Zetec's. Fairly light weight, anywhere from 100-140bhp in standard trim. The Zetec tunes to 200bhp fairly easily. If it were me, I'd look into that as an option.
I think I have once seen a Porsche flat 6 in a Nova at one of the annual stoneleigh kit car shows (should be happening late April/early May ish). If you can, I highly recommend going down - this is the biggest & best british show & you'll find many other Nova owners including some who will have tried various options and can advise from experience. Hope it's still happening this year, anyway!

Big Col, it's not a vauxall nova fella
they where called novas before GM stole the name, and made everyone think I drove vauxall...boohoo
Hades, I think the porsche would be the best option as I wouldn't have to change the running gear then, maybe upgrade the vw box...I wouldn't fancy cogs raining out the back of my car after 100 miles

Lightweight, up to 250 bhp at 8,500rpm. Basically a 1.6 litre bike engine.

Thanks for the compliments fellas, I was thinking about a flat four scooby sport one, cause of the low centre of gravity...I think a turbo one would be far too much power for me to handle in the Nova...anyone know anyone in the nothwest who could fit an engine into it? I know any old cowboy garage would have a go, would be nice to have a good job done
