who knows about Golf TDIs

I was reading max power march 03 edition and they had a article on the golf 150bhp TDi, appernatly they got 202bhp and 329 lbft out of the car on a rolling road using just a superchip and a eurosport induction kit, is this really possible and can the 6 speed gearbox take this power & torque ? if not what are the max figures ??

Mark IV Golf Forums has lots of info on APR & Revo upgrades which are generally reckoned to be the best for VW TDi motors.
IIRC the Revo upgrade for the PD150 gives 190bhp and 300lb-ft, I think it's also done by reflashing the ECU so there's no soldering etc.

Revo maps from a Golf PD130...
BHP:
Torque:
Revo also do SPS for Ibiza PD130, so I'd presume for the Golf as well. This lets you swap between standard and Revo maps yourself, so ideal for dealer visits

thanks chris, you got any maps of the PD 150, cos in terms of max figures the 150 and 130 are near enough identicle apart from the 150 havin 10 bhp more at the top, would be interesting to check its power curve tho.

Nope the 130 won't, IIRC. There are certain differences in the engines, main one being the whacking great front mount intercooler on the 150.
IIRC, the VW racing TDi, runs a Superchip (variable dependant on whether its a sprint or endurance race) and various other bits and bobs. In endurance spec its about 220bhp, for sprints its about 250. Can't remember the torque figures.
Most of the parts can be ordered via your ever friendly VW dealer. Parts list can be found here

Re Superchips & PD150s -- this was posted on uk-mkivs.net a few days ago .... not all rosy in the garden, seems like severe overboost problems.
"I was the one who had the red 150PD, superchipped to ~200bhp. well i've been having no end of probs!!!
"it started at the 1st service. the car had been running great - getting quicker infact! then, i picked it up after its 1st service, booted it and bam.... nothing. flat as a fart. the turbo had been cut off. anyway, i drove to where i was going and prayed it was a one off - not so! so i went back to where i had it done, and they thought it was probably the car, as it had never happened before with the chip in, before the service.
"So, they we put the original chip back in and i made an appointment with vw. One snag - the car now ran fine (just slower!). i couldnt take it to vw, as it obviously wasnt the car. Another, less powerful chip was ordered, and duly fitted. same thing again - everytime i changed up when i was giving it some beans, the turbo was cut off, and the only way to re-set it is to turn the engine off and on again.
"So, it was then deduced that since it was now winter, and a lot colder the car must be over - boosting due to the cold, and as a safety cut off, the car cut the turbo off. (as chips are set up on a rolling road, this would have been impossible to account for).
"And this is the position im in now. it's slightly warmer now, so it wasn't doing it as much, but as soon as it hit 120mph, it would die. however, on saturday, when it was quite warm, it was doing it on up-changes as well. so im waiting to see what superchips have to say.
"the thing that bothers me is that it was fine until vw got their hands on it. it was cold then, so why all of a sudden has it gone ***** up? it's obviously not the car, as ive had it with the normal chip in and it's fine, and i can't take it in with the superchip in, as i'll have to tell them it's chipped!"

Yopu have a fault in the airflow valve, this is a common problem on the PDI VW so worth checking this out, we had it happen on our BORA TDI and it is exactly as you described, new Valve car goes like Sh-t of a shovel!!!hope this is of some help worth a try let me know if it works Cheers

Benview -- which valve do you mean? The MAF sensor on the air intake, or the exhaust gas recycling (EGR) valve, or another one? I'd be very interested to know, cheers.
By the way, it isn't my car with the problem, it's someone over on the Golf forum (so that's alright )

MAF sensor was the problem on ours when we chipped it and fitted the new MAF it went great give the guy this phone number and ask him to speak with jim He is a great guy and what he does not know about VW is not worth wrting about (01592) 770377 STAR PERFORMANCE IN GLENROTHES< Iam sur he will help the guy out .
I dont know about Su--- chips never used them bit harsh to blame them if the car may have another fault?

Actually i would disagree slightly about star performance
I bought the ABT front mounted intercooler on the back of Stars
write about it - they said it was an easy fit which was actually bull**** which they admitted to AMD when they asked them about it -
Star used to be scottish agents for AMD - as far the electronics are concerned Stars knowledge is more to do with AMD......

That's open to debate isn't CM? (Note, not being bitchy here!).
Had the same debate in the TDi forum on SC.Net and were facts pointing to 260lb/ft as well as around 300lb/ft.

Chris
I sincerely hope it is 300lb/ft but why call it an MQ350 unless the 350 stands for something i.e. NM. It sure as hell aint gonna be lb/ft in good old metric europe now is it.
I'm getting the latest Revo code on mine in a couple of weeks giving 287lb/ft so mine'll probably be the next to go :P

Calling RB5 aka Fen - he's got a Ibiza PD130 with the Revo map...
I'm running 184bhp and 306lb/ft from my 130 Ibiza. After 15k miles it's still fine, the 'box and clutch holding up perfectly. SInce it was RR'd I'm also now running a stainless decat system and hoping a 'Green' panel filter is here before my first trackday in it this Sunday.
When I had the Revo done (it was APR back then) it made the car smoother and felt more OE than the OE map did if that makes sense. There's surprisingly little traction loss / torque steer (albeit I have TCS, but the light isn't on that often).
I've no idea what 0-anything is 'cos what's the point? 30-100 in 4th is 13secs timed over 3 separate goes (but only with a wristwatch second hand) if that gives you an idea. Basically it made a huge difference driving wise, though: Faster, smoother, more fun.
Fen
ChrisB - I'm meeting up with ZBoyd, AndyB and maybe Saul in Manchester on Wednesday; any chance of you making a trip up?

I've got a removable in-line chip for a VW PD TDI, I have been told that it gives 20% power and 25% torque increase, it isn't the nicest mapped thing that's why I enquired about Fen's Ibiza which sounds a wicked beast. I forgot to mention it Fen because a mate of mine has had it for nearly a year!
I used the chip on my Golf 115bhp and 130bhp lease cars. No trace at all for the dealers, just plenty of surge and smoke!
I think the proper ECU jobies are best for driveability and performance but I wanted to protect my lease, warrenty and job so I got the removable one.

Fen, how much did that upgrade cost ya, it isnt mentioned on the revo website, do you know what the best revo can do with a 150bhp engine cos they quoted me 190bhp/290lbft,and thats less than yours,
Not sure what the differences are between the two engines, i think someone mentioned earlier that the 150 had a bigger FMIC.
I am a bit worried about the limitations of the gearbox, i have emailed VW but have had no reply.

Heres another weird thing, i just recieved a reply from super chips and their power graphs show the 130bhp has more torque after being chipped than the 150 engine, even though the 150 has more BHP.
