Pug 306 d turbos are very good little cars...Ive got one at the moment....

Economy....they are pretty economical but be ary of claims of '55+' mpg etc..such figures can be very rarely obtained with an extremly steady cruise on the motorway.....45mpg is generally the norm around town and mixed driving...

Performance....they aint really all that for 'low down' torque..in fact they only really got any go when the turbo comes in...thats at about 3000rpm but they do have a good torque kick then....

Handling...they handle v well and are very good when lowered etc although the ride will suffer...the ride is very good

Insurance..a measly group 5..so it should cost you pennies..

Looks: smart looking cars..look very nice with twin headlight conversion, colour coding, smart 17s and a good drop.....

BTW...Im gonna be selling mine soon (!) ..a P plate 1.9D turbo, diablo red (beautiful colour), fully colour coded, delocked, total closure security, quad headlamps, GTI6 skirts ( all factory colour coded), 100k but total history and 2 owners from new, nokia handsfree, full electrics, PAS , airbag,recaro style seats, ...asking 3k....bargain!let me know if ur interested. {Salesman mode off.}

I had a 99/T D Turbo S a couple of years ago as I needed an economical car that was fun to drive. This one had full SP kit fitted by Peugeot, including sports suspension that made it handle extremely well. An induction kit and full system meant it was very nippy for a 1.9 TD but still returned 45/50 mpg. I would certainly recommend one based on what you have said. My brother has owned the car after me and has been very pleased with it. He is looking to sell it so mail me offline if you would be interested in the full spec / pics of this fine 306.

Turboman,

I'd be very interested, but waiting on the sale of a house in Jamaica in which I have a 1/3 share. I hope it will sell quickly, but its anybody's guess as to when a sale will be achieved. Yours certainly sounds nice at the price (I'm no expert).

I currently pay £1294 for my Scoob insurance, and Liv Vic have advised approx £344 to add a 306 TD fully comp with £100 xs on a multicar policy (is this a good deal? I thought so).

Tommy,

I have seen your car... it looks wicked, I do like! But I am dependant on the sale of the aforementioned property which I fear won't be immediately forthcoming. I would have certainly taken a look at it had the funds been available, even though it was £1.5K over my orignal budget.

Age isn't really an issue as I feel simple mods can make an 'L' reg look like 'T' reg. If there isn't too much diffrence overall between an early one and a later one then I don't mind which I get, hence the broad range within which i am prepared to spend.

Cheers,

Kevin

Cool

Kevin,

Let us know if you do manage to sell your 'rasta hut' and wanna check it out...

...I personally would go for a newer shape one as the interior is better and it has air con.

Happy hunting!

Turboman,

I will check back with you when I'm in a position to buy (assuming that isn't too far away). Thanks for the advice so far. My other alternative is that my girlfriend is selling her MX-5 for about £3K and wants to get a Megane conv/coupe or a 94/95 Celica GT. The issue is getting a decent one of those cars means more than £3K.

So the plan might be to get a 306 with the funds from the sale of her car until I get my windfall and then I buy her the car she wants leaving me with the 306. If we do manage to sell her car, how soon would you be prepared to sell yours (she needs transportation for work)? Oh, and do you have any pics?

Kevin

Hi,

I'm currently looking for a Pug 306 Diesel turbo but only have a budget of £2.5K max and I definately don't want any mods to keep the insurance as cheap as possible.

Do you know what I need to look out for when buying a diesel (and a Pug 306 in particular)? Does the usual 'white gunk on the inside of the oil cap' apply? How do I know if the exhaust smoke is normal or indicating a problem?

Any help much appreciated.

Gary.
