Hi guys, just wondering if you have had any experiences with these cars, as I'm thinking of getting one as a runaround, to keep the mileage down on the scoob, plus save on my fuel bills, cheers guys.

Keep a close eye out for rot on the rear tailgate(under the RWW), the sunroof, and all wheel arches. Front wings normally the first thing to go.
Check the handbrake, rear calipers are also a known problem, and expensive.
Had mine for 2 years and sold it to buy a fiesta??? I know.
Any way lovely cars and great fun.

yup sold my gti16 t-vis a couple of months ago, brilliant motors if you ask me...
Rev really high they are quick for there class too, think the only other things that can beat them are probably vts's and crx's they are nippy!
Mine had 17" alloys and full stailess zorst and lowering springs and i got 550 quid for it!..
It had done 116,000 and there was a little bit of rust but apart from that it was a great buy for the bloke

Fantastic little motors... my favourite bar Scoob! A full suspension kit and 16s saw mine cornering as if on rails. After 4650 rpm things start to get interesting.

A few examples I looked at before buying were prone to rust on the sunroof and tailgate as well as wheel arches. They are hard wearing and well equipped cars for not a lot of money. I am considering another one myself if I don't buy a diesel!

Beware sticking or malfunctioning rear brake calipers. They aren't cheap.

Good motors....not much torque but very revvy....

Good MPG if u drive em under 4k rpm.....cheap to insure, most bits are cheap

Suspension does need srting to make em handle though...

Very very cheap to buy now.......but make sure its a good un with FSH, history etc

If anyone has an AE86 now, then hang on to it. It may turn into a classic one day (in Japan it is already a classic).

Indeed, I intend to keep hold of my AE86, as prices are already getting high in the UK. I've seen some going for £4k plus fer cyring out loud.

FWD version is a cracking motor too, same engine, revvy, gutsy motor and quite a sweet chassis.

Thanks for the responses guys, much appreciated , I have seen two corolla GTi's One has all the extras 18" wheels, Koni Shocks, Mongoose S/S Exhaust Sparco Prodrive bucjet seats, etc, but is white in colour, the other is standard mechanically bar a pulsar gti-r bonnett scoop, and flip paint (green/blue/bronze/purple) looks awesome. The thing is deciding which one to buy. I think I might buy them both, transfer the bits from the white car to the green one and then sell the white one. What do you reckon?

Yep thats the one, It was at the pod, and it did race steve's corolla GTi (I think that was hi name) is that the one your talking about???, Yeah but you've gotta understand, that the white corolla was superchipped, mongoose exhaust filter, and the back seat was ripped out to save weight, and it was the later spec 129 bhp example, whereas the green one is packed full of I.C.E. DVD player, playstation, 2 x subs, 3 x amps, 4 x 6x9 speakers, and is more or less standard mechanically.

Are you intrested in the car Pate???, I think he wants £2,900 with the heavy I.C.E. system, what do you think???, I can give you the number if you want??

I used to have a red J- plate Gti 16v, 16`s lowered, Scorpion.
Very good car IMO, prone to a bit of rust as detailed above good engine as long as it has been looked after.
I had mine for 2 years and didnt have 1 problem with it.

Blimey.........I am Steve, and it was my corolla you're talking about at the pod! I raced the flip job one and beat it with ease
True, it was lacking in power and I had stripped mine out. If the guy wants £2900 then you are getting so conned. I wish I'd sold mine for something close to that! Mine was K reg, only K reg one I've ever seen or heard of, 83k miles, Superchip, Scorpion exhaust from downpipe back, 10 cd auto changer, alarm, Lowered, 155bhp on rolling road, 16.35 1/4 mile, K & N Induction kit, uprated brake discs and pads, Laguna front splitter, smoothed grill blah blah blah, and I got £1850 for it. It was mint. If you pay over £1000 for one then you are being conned I'm afraid. Unless of course its supercharged

My Car:

I have a pic of it racing the flip job one, but I can't upload it due to terrapin not working!

Had a 88 model many years ago, fecking brilliant car much underrated IMHO. Better choice than a 205 or Golf, better engine, better handling, better built than the competitors of it's vintage.

I was looking at a G reg one just yesterday, parked next to it, rot looks like a major issue.

Cam belts need doing regularly think it is either 45K or 60K, twin cam engine sweet but needs to be revved. Engine bulletproof as long as serviced regularly.

Like most Toyota's they work best on genuine parts like filters, plugs, cam belts.

Toyota part not cheap but last a long time.

If you can find a nice, unmolested rot free one you will have yourself a good car.
