Cheap tunable sports number?
#1
Hey guys,
on a budget of up to 1500 squids, and want a reasonably tuneable car, to use for road use
in my eyes, it really has to have a turbo, as these are the easiest to up the power on. also, don't really want to shell out loads for mods, and want decent build and cred, (sorry but rules out the daihatsu!!!)
any ideas people??
Cheers

F*rd Fiesta RST?! Eeek!
As already suggested, a 5 GT Turbo is your best bet if you want to tune the nuts off it...They seem to produce big power fairly cheaply - Just watch out for grenading the engine! (Heard that fitting an oil cooler, and not runing 2+ bar of boost helps... )
Might I also suggest a Fiat Uno Turbo? Mk 1's are hard to come by these days due to the dreaded tinworm, but a Mk 2 is well within your budget...A couple of friends ran 160-170bhp Mk2's, and they were a hoot for pocket money...
Another Italian worth considering is a Lancia Thema Turbo - £1500 should net a decent 16v'er - 200bhp with more to come (It's fitted with more of less the same engine as the 16v Integrale...)
Are you sure forced induction is the way to go? At £1500 it's a bit of a gamble that the turbo is going to hold together...
Still - WaddaIknow!
Cheers,
Ross.

Easy. Charade GTti. Pick them up for very little , £650 for mine, and these are easily tunable to 150bhp with a decent exhuast, air filter, fcd and bleed valve ( about £500 all in). In standard 99bhp form they do 0-60 in 7.7 seconds so work out what 150bhp goes like. I can tell you its a fair bit quicker than my Scoob !
I liked the one I went in so much I bought one and now run the owners club ! The engines are very strong and rarely fail. If they do die its normally the head gasket which is not too hard to fix. If you want more info see the club website www.gttioc.co.uk . They sound great by the way with the 3 cylinder engine, a bit like a 911 !

You gotta get a 200sx. Just picked one up myself for £2500. 265hp and in excellent condition.
It' the best value sports car there is. £1500 will get you a nice standard car.
Just watch out for ones with 90k'ish miles on them cuz the big ends go on them between 90 and 110 regardless of servicing.
