Went to look at a new Leon today for my wife, I asked the salesman, as they have recently revised the Ibiza are there any plans to release a facelift version of the Leon, to which he replied, "They are not planning a facelift on this model"
Fair enough me thinks, takes it out for a drive, nice car and a bit bigger than the Polo we currently have.
Nearly do the deal there and then, decide to have a think, gets me home, reads me car mags only to see they are releasing a "Salsa" model to replace the Leon this year
So he didn't lie, but he didn't mention that the new car could could have just bought was about to be discontinued
He's just lost my 11 grand anyway.

Mega, I realise that you want to be careful with your money, anybody would, but you can't blame a man for doing his job properly. You asked him a question and he gave you a straight answer to your question. No salesman is ever going to admit the car they are selling might be obsolete in a few months time, and you are being naive to expect him to do that. Any sales person on this site would do the same thing, you don't admit your products weaknesses, you sell its strong points. I say might in this case, because the Salsa isn't supposed to be a direct replacement, the Leon will continue to be sold alongside the Salsa.
If do you want a Leon I know the owner of a Seat dealership who is always looking to do a deal, call a chap called Howard on 01472 348348, the dealer is in Grimsby. Howard isn't the owner, but he's a good chap, who will do the deal if he can, tell him Jethro asked you to call.

Reffro, but by telling him about the Salsa he may get a sale on that! Understand what you are saying though. Mind you, the salesman didn't get the sale of either car!

I know that what he said wasn't a lie, but how p1ssed off would you be if you bought a new car after specifically asking the seller if a facelift or newer version was due out to find that it's been discontinued?
Anyway, we went for a Golf in the end
And yes, I do know they are bringing a facelift version out later this year

Hi Mega,
Assuming that you went to our 'local' SEAT dealer they seem to enjoy pi55ing people off. Last year was changing my wife's Ibiza. As we were pleased with the old car we decided to give the new model a look. All ready to do the deal when the sales guy makes a really silly trade in offer on our existing car despite it being in his words an immaculate, low mileage, example (always serviced by them), it was certainly much better than any of the overpriced crap he had on his secondhand forecourt. And worse still he was also inflexible on the new car price.
Instead I decided to look around and got a much better deal on a new model Corolla. So final score SEAT 0 Toyota 1.

I think the Salsa looks cool too, but given that the Leon leaks, what is that going to be like around the hatch?
It's also a bit radical so it'll date quicker than something that dates really quickly (see TT thread going on just now).

I'd never have one, my Dad had a 97P Toledo broke down 8 times in 2 months!!!! So bad they gave him a free replacment, just as bad!
Can't remember the problems but when he went to replace it, he had to have a AA van follow him with flashing lights because it's lights were all flashing and at the bottom of the road it cut out then restarted but wouldn't go above 10 mph!!!
New ones might be better but I wouldn't bother. And they lied to him, few of the times said it was how he drove!!!

Yes, it was our "local" dealer
After banging my head on the TV they have hanging off the wall they offered us £6100 for a "51" 2001 Polo SE 16v with 14k on the clock, which he told me was the price VW said as the car would go directly to them to sell being so new and only 1 owner.
2 VW dealers offered us £7350 and £7500
Hence we went VW, so for us Seat 0 VW 1

The Leon is getting a face lift and the Salsa (if and when it appears) will not look like the photos you've got. That was the prototype and it will be toned down a lot.
I can't remember which magazine published photos of the new look Leon but the car hasn't changed that much.
All cars usually get a face lift every 2-3 years and after 4-5 years usually get a major change. The Leon is still quite a new car, so I wouldn't expect a major change until VAG launch their new platform for the new Golf, Audi etc.
Finally, to be fair to the dealer, he probably didn't know one way or another. Not that this is a good excuse as a good dealer should take enough of an interest to at least know as much as you can find out reading the car magazines!
