Opel Manta Pics?
#2
I might root the pictures of mine out and scan them in!
Never heard the old Manta mentioned on Scoobynet, I had a 1986 GTE Hatch in the early nineties, quite enjoyed it but the 1.8 was nearly as quick and both got murdered by just about any hot hatch !
Really nice Recaros with 1972 dashboard, engine used to rock the whole car and feel really meaty and still manage to be fairly slow.

I've had 3, last of which was a late model exclusive. Love them to bits but they rust like crazy and need a bit of fettling to make them handle properly. I'll have another one day.

Mantamac,
That car in Monaco Blue is pure sex.
I love manta's too, was the saddest day when I parted company with my 1986 Dolphin Grey Exclusive Hatchback (100bhp @ wheels and blisteins). Before that I had a 1979 Sapphire Blue 2.0 Sr and after that 1.8 Berlinetta. Saw the Exclusive though and had to have it.
Good car's never die, they just get better!

I'll try to find some of my M8's old 3-litre conversion in anthracite. There are some of it airborne and others with clouds of tyresmoke (as a 1.8 in both of them IIRC).
He has another 3 litre now, but I haven't seen it (he's in Scotland and I'm in Devon...)
Edited to add that I have a Cav Coupe excatly like the green ne in the pic about 14 years ago.

The green Manta in the background is a 1979 1.9 SR. I'm in the process of fitting a 2.2 motor with a turbo and supercharger on it.The turbo is the old unit off the Courtenay and the supercharger is off a Torque Development's converted Manta.I'm not after big power ,I just fancied having a pop at the conversion. I think it should make about 220 bhp in modest boost form.
The 2.7 Turbo Has been off the road for ages. I did load's of work on the engine many year's ago. It was running 2 bar boost(it made 252 bhp at 14psi on the original 2.0L)so was making easily over 300 bhp. The problem was the shell was twisting with the power!!!!!
I took it off the road to seam weld it, and fit a roll cage.I just haven't got round to putting it back on the road yet
I will have finnished the 1.9 SR in about 2 month's so I'll post some pic's and a dyno sheet when it's boxed off. As for the 2.7 ,it's at the bottom of the list as I'm going to spend a few bob on the Lancer next as I'm fed up with getting fuel cut's..doh!

I had four of 'em, three of the A series (round rear lights and a bit curvy) last one was a 1.9SR, great cars, not quick just a nice change from a Ford or such.
Mate had a Turbo version converted by ???
Had a GTE which loke the part but was not quick.
ah, fond memories!

A guy over here who's 75 years old hillclimbs a 2 litre jobby, he can easily spin it on a straight road if it's wet and he's on slicks! The mechanic who looks after my parent's cars put a chevy V8 in one, looks and sounds awesome!

Me and a few mates have been playing about with a few Manta's. This is how one particularly rusty example ended up:
<edited cos I can;t get the pics to show up, you can see them on this page...>

Always loved the Manta 400 group B cars: a lovely handling, quick, conventional "proper" RWD rally car. Buy "In Car Manx 1983" on board with Ari Vatanen in the Rothmans Manta if you have any doubts.
One of Jimmy McRae's AC Delco cars is for sale in Motoring News, yours for £35,000.
