I have just notices loads of small scrathces on my Clio Cup all over it, some quite deep others you can prob t-cup out.

Its only 3 weeks old, I have washed it 3 times.

I dont have a clue where these scratches have come from, Its deff not me washing it as I take great care of my car. Maybe its a gritter?

Is there maybe a problem with my cars paint, I cant belive a 3 week old car could get this scratched.

I have spoke to renault about a few minor problems on my car and this paint problem they want to see it next Wenesday.

Is this my problem or renaults?

Has anyone else experenced this?

Scott

Hmmm, swirl marks, etc should be too bad on that colour. My VTS was black and within weeks it has bad swirl marks and little scratches that showed up. Nothing that could be done though as it was just that the dark colour showed it up more. I suppose it depends how bad it is.

Swirls - soft paint me thinks - don't make it worse by sticking it through the car wash

Swirls are going to look lovely on a sunny day - NOT

I don’t know what you drive?(might be a 700BHP skyline for all I know) but these Cup’s don’t hang about for a little FWD "shopping trolley", and the paint is no worse than a Scoob.

i've got a 220gti turbo rover, rolling roaded at 231/265 goes quite well, and a 2wd cossie not quite a 700bhp skyline
Going to take one for a test drive and see, looking for nippy but reliable motoring with a little bit of fun, it sounds very good from what i have read

Cool

I've got a 5000 mile Cup as well, and it has indeed got the same quality paintwork as my rather similar-coloured former Evo 6. And sure enough, it has the same marks as well. I remember the same problem with the Evo. Dark blue metallic seems to really show up any imperfections.

And Chris, you asked about the Cup. It's a hoot. Very fast for thirteen big ones, and turn-in as well as chassis and grip are astounding. It is very well sorted for track use, but a handful on the road, with plenty of torque steer and tramlining on anything less than perfect. Driving position is irritating and gear change agricultural. In fact the gearchange is what reduces 30-70 times( although I have managed 5.8 seconds with the AP22 ).

It's a hardcore hatch, not for pu55ies... Like me...

Good to see Renault going back to there roots In my opinion they make the best Hot Hatch’s on the road.

I read it's quite common with Blue, due to the water based paint used today.

Kick up a fuss at your dealer, and if they say it's within acceptable limits, then get them to take the car back so they can sell it to some other mug!

Good luck Scott.

Do you wash it with a car wash or brush or karcher jet pressure thingy - if so that could be your problem.

You might also be polishing it too hard with a dirty cloth!

You could just keep it dirty then you wont notice the swirl marks

The Cup I looked at was so bad I'd have rejected it if I'd ordered it. Part of it was orange-peel and part of it looked like it had been sprayed on a beach.

When are the other colours coming?

Unhappy

I'd bet most of the scratches were there when you got it.

Any mid to dark metallic will show up even minor scratches due to the light refracting of even the slightest damage in the laquer top coat.

Typical scenario:-

Factory paints car - depending upon quality of paint shop - scratch free.

Then goes through assembly lines. With the best will in the world, its going to pick up a few fine scratches.

New car then coated in that waxy crud that protects them for transport, if lucky, sometimes not.

Car then sits about docks/field/importers yard/wherever before going onto transporter.

Delivery drivers, etc, rub past cars in transit - more fine scratches.

Arrives at dealers - sits in showroom - gets crawled all over - PDI, whatever, gets more fine scratches from salesmen/punters/technicians.

Final prep before you take delivery includes a polish. You think the dealers valet guy is really that careful? Doubt it.

So your "new" car gets polished by a bloke getting minimum wage with lets face it, not the best cloths/polishes/etc.

BUT

The fresh polish disguises the fact that there are now quite a few very fine scratches, not to mention what the final prep has inflicted. SO the car looks minted (base paint quality aside) on delivery.

Three weeks down the line and you have now wached the car a few times - all the wax/polish is gone and its "**** where did all the scratches come from"

The other point to note is that every time you polish/wax the car you are likely to inflict at least a couple of very minor scratches - but you don't realise that till you wash the wax off.
