Oil changes on Cup
#1
My car has just done 1000 miles and Im thinking of changing the oil.
I feel 12k miles is far too long so im going to do this oil change and then every 6 k miles.
Do you think I should change the oil filter with every change?
Do you lot think im going over the top with all this oil changing as Renault say every 12k miles???

My scoob is about to have its 5 set of oil next month and has covered 8,000 miles in just over 2 years. I would recommend you change it every 6 months and do the filter at the same time. It cant hurt and good if you do a lot of town stuff. On scoobs its recommended to dont go to fully synthetic to early but havent got a clue about clios.

Change it after it's first 1k, then every 6-7k, despite what the manual says, a can of oil & a filter every 6 months or so is a damned sight cheaper than a new engine.
Although I don't think my XR4x4 has had an oil change since Christmas 2000

I don't understand why manufacturers leave the factory-fill oil for 12K miles, seems well over the top to me.
For warranty issues, I would get the dealer to do the change using factory filters etc ... you don't want to have an engine problem and them find an OEM filter ...

They leave it in as the advances in lubricant technologies and manufacturing tolerances allow it with little or no risk. The question I'd ask the 3K or 6K changers is how long will you keep your car, changing your oil every 3 or 6 months may mean no rebuild till 200K instead of 150K.
Its just a mental thing for us, to make us feel better. The odds of wrapping it round a lamppost or getting it nicked are much higher than the engine going pop as a result of changing the oil less often. However I still change my oil more often than I should, keeps me busy in the garage rather than the garden at the weekend .
