These are going to push out 200bhp with plenty of torque too. £3500 over standard car so £18K with no options. Must be worth thinking about as standard Cooper S keeps kicking *** in all major mags. Came 4th in Car's PCOTY behind Zonda, 360 Modena and SL55AMG!! Evo VII was 5th, RS Focus 6th and STi 7th I think. Although 163bhp Cooper S is slower on paper its the concensus that in real world driving there's not much to separate standard WRX, Clio Cup, CTR, Focus etc. so 200bhp model should clean up. Whats more its BMW approved so warranty and TLC package stay in tact I think. Its gotta be on the short list with R32 and 147 GTA as feasible Scooby alternative??

I'd love one, but I'm a wee bit skint at the mo'. I'll be watching the road tests with interest, though.

It's not BMW approved. We looked at getting Mrs C's cooper JC'd but the dealer said that any engine-related warranty work would be refused and it would be up to the John Cooper warranty cover!

The Alpina version (also 200bhp) will be the BMW approved version.

The John Cooper conversion is going to be manufacturer approved according to the article I read last week, and the Alpina version has been canned, as Alpina rightly realised that at the likely starting price of £25k+ no one would buy their conversion.

I'd be very surprised, BMW don't approve anything they don't supply and fit - even Schnitzer engine parts are only covered by the Schnitzer warranty

I've read two articles now that confirm it is approved, last weeks Autoexpress was one. You can even order it at the showroom as an extra. I'll check on the JC Website.

IMHO , from my experience with BMW response to warranty claims, I'd suggest something like the cooper or schnitzer warranty is much preferable to the level of "service" the standard mini warranty will get you anyway.

Yes but 'articles' in motoring rag's said the std Cooper 'works' was approved and could be fitted at a BMW dealer..... until people tried it!!!

As to the std MINI warranty, just the same as the BMW warranty which from my intermittent experiance over the past 7 years has been faultless and far better than any other car I've had Afraid Subaru were the worst trying to claim a SS backbox could have caused a 1st gear synchromesh failure

That being said, I know BMW wave 2 fingers at you if you take their cars away from standard. 2 people I know that 'chipped' 330d/530d's got letter from BMW(GB) within a week of their first post-chip service informing them that their warranty was null and void

www.johncooper.co.uk

Picked this up there ...

…or see your local dealer
Alternatively, if you are unable to get your car to us or would prefer to use your local dealer, that's fine, the John Cooper Works conversion will be available from selected premium partners worldwide. They are fully conversant with the engineering work required and have all the specialist tools and expertise to complete the necessary work for you. However if your conversion is carried out at John Cooper Works, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you have enjoyed the genuine Cooper experience and the kudos which will accompany your association with our legendary automotive racing organisation.

... bit think its for the Cooper, not the Cooper S.

When I enquired at BMW in Golders Green they said the Works conversion would not affect the warranty, and could keep your TLC package too.
