Westfield....Megabusa
#1
Where do I start...
Due to a bad spill at the Ring earlier this year i'm having to give up bike racing but still want to enjoy the thrills of the track.
My present car is an sti5 Type-r which I love to bits but I don't think it would take too kindly to 4-5 track days plus trips to the Ring every year let alone the cost.
My plan is to get a cheap run about such as a VR6 (Seen a nice one for £3K)and get a Megabusa for Mega fun on the track. Thing is don't think i'll find one for around £12K(unless someone wants to sell me theirs)so I'd like to know if its possible to buy a slightly cheaper Westfield for say £8K and change to Busa engine and running gear for around £5K??? Anyone know if this is possible or are chassis only suitable for one type of engine etc?
Sorry to ask lots of questions but I know nothing about these cars apart from they look like the best fun on four wheels
I want to use the Busa engine due to my contacts in the bike world and access to some 'naughty' parts not to mention the joy of a sequential(sp) box!!
Any info or advice would be most gratefully received.
Thanks
Tony
ps...I've put in some pics of my car i'll be selling

If you have a search on the messageboard at:
wscc
you should be able to find all the information you need.
BTW, if you do decide to go for the engine switching option and want a cheapish car give us a shout, my SEi-W is in winter storage, but still available (6.5k of your earth pounds)

I'll second catflap - I have a megablade and the difference between that and the busa is not that great.
I know speed freaks (like us) ALWAYS go for the faster/best engine, but a 30 min spin in a Megablade alone will be enough to scare you ****less and teach you you cannot drive anywhere near as well as you thought you could I have taken bikers (Blade/R1/Busa/etc) out in mine and they have been scared and sworn by car was faster than their bike....it isn't (except on track ) but with no windscreen/roof/doors, a seat position where your **** is (literally) 5 inches off the ground and virtually unsilenced screaming engine inches from their ear, it just feels faster.
Coming from an STi to even just a megablade will be an enormous leap (over a 50% increase in PWR and no AWD/ABS/traction control etc) and gives you everything you crave (tunable, seq. box) plus the blade is far more reliable and a quarter of the cost of the busa.
Plus, if eventually you do get used to the performance (which 18 months in I am still a mile away from) transplanting a Busa engine into a blade car will be easy.

Cheers for that
So it would be quite easy at a later date to transplant a busa engine and what would that involve?
I've seen a 2001 Megablade for £11K at a dealers is that about right?
Damn...Can't wait now
Thanks

I am in the same position i.e. Selling the Scooby to get a runaround and a Westie/Caterham, with the Bike engined variety being the current favourite.
I am going up to the Westfield factory tomorrow and hopefully I will get to drive/get driven in some of their bike-engined cars so will report back next week with my experiences

Ive just done exactly this... sold the evo and purchased a westie ZEi220 and an Audi A4 2.6 v6 quattro.
The Audi offers a comfortable, warm and refined drive to work and the westie offers a focused driving experiance.... in my opinion, all the scoobies/evos/cossies etc are all compromise cars at the end of the day. The best of both worlds with two cars!
Now, will the god_damn_rain just pi55 off so I can drive the bloody thing!!!!!
Here she is
330bhp stage 3 Cosworth turbo mmmmm wheelspin

i am moving to a busa in 18 months when the price of the engine comes down (its already dropping to 2.5k from 3.5k 6 months ago ) i hope to sell mine fro around 10-11k
11k is a good price for a nice example, i paid about that for mine in the summer (not so long ago) and they don’t seem to drop their price that much.
They are so much fun I don’t understand why people buy 1 half hart car for fast driving and commuting when you can do what many of us do and get a cheaper run around car and a westy for the same price They are awesome fun.

Seen a ZEi220 with a 270bhp cossy lump for sale.....what do you find yours like, was worried that the turbo power would kick in too hard and loose traction too easily etc.
Can't think of any other potential problems
Are you anywhere near the South East area as i'd love to have a look at what the cossy version has to offer?

Gixerman - You sure its a ZEi220? not a SEi220 (ZEi wannabe )?
I havnt had a chance to really get the westie out and drive it, spins the wheels in 2nd in the dry and 4th/5th in the wet..... its a case or power in moderation, you will get to know the car and when the power will come in hard, you will know when to put the pedal right down and when not to....
Cossie turbo power in such a light car is nothing short of brutal, but massive grins Will pretty much eat ANYTHING on the road
Im in Herts, south east....

I have a 280bhp Westie Cosworth and have done about 10 track days in it this year,in the dry it is up there with the fastest kit cars, and it eats all the the jap cars on track you can brake sooooo much later then the heavy tin tops and corner speeds are huge.I took a guy out in mine who had a 400bhp Skyline he said that where he started to brake i was snatching another gear
Went to Bedford Aerodrome in it yesterday and things were a bit different cut slicks and heavy rain it took me 2 laps to get past a mini cooper with about 100bhp, never had wheel spin like it still spinning in 4th but had a great day sliding around all over the place.

Looks very sweet mate
They look even better once the bonnets off
Not even sure if i'll be able to fit in one yet(6'1")and i'm finding it harder than I thought to put the Scoob up for sale....maybe got something to do with the pants weather!!!
Any chance I could come over and try the seating position etc(I presume all Westys are the same?)as I can't find any dealers etc in the South East?
You might be able then to convert me to cossie power as opposed to bike power

You will fit no probs, Im also 6'1" and not the slimist of builds Then again my wesite is a wide bodied jobby.
You are welcome to come over and try out the seating position, but not really the weather to go out for a spin, boost comes on, road is damp, wheels spin, crash, die - tis not good Heres praying for a few dry weekends!

All I can say is
Now looking at keeping the Type-r and probably buying a 98 Sylva striker with CBR1000 engine(to be replaced by busa later) with a fellow Scoobynetter and just keep as track day car

catflap,
I'm having R1's in my mini and I paid about £1500 each both are mint and have next to no mileage on them (3 figures), they are also not stolen which is something youv'e got to watch for when buying bike engines.
Chris can supply engines if he's fitting them or not. As to how much he'd charge for putting one in I don't know (he can work round a figure you give him) best bet is to call him on 01964 527725 (mention you got his number from Matt Fox)
Hope this helps
