Webber Carb conversion on BMW E30 series

My girlfriend's E30 BMW has a constant problem with the engine revs racing and slowing whilst she's driving it.
The problem was traced to a vacuum controller in the carburettor which isn't interpretating the throttle properly.
Parts are proving very difficult to find (this was a common problem with the E30 carburettors apparently, so my question is:
Would a conversion kit to a webber carburettor be the recommended course of action ? eg. can anyone recommend these kits ?
