Mellow, not sure 440 from a t34 is possible with the air it can flow

I have done a 1.21 of dono with standard brakes BTW.

Craig did 1.19 with a 350 bhp scoob on road tyres......

r500's are only fast round bends, soooooo get hammered down the back straight by a rusty bucket

1.38 at croft is not amazingly quick, whereas the other times are ????

was the spec of the car different for croft ?

as a very rough guesstimation 1.16 at donny, 1.32 at cadwell would equate to around 1.30 at croft, maybe even less ???

Will I ever be happy.....erm ....well....the reason I put it up on that sie Tim was so as not to take advantage of scoobynet mate as Shaun I'm sure will be the first to agree with me on....

However, just to clarify a few pointers here....

I did Croft on Saturday and did achieve a 1 min 38 sec, please bear in mind that this was it's first main outing for me and this was in the morning....unfortunately I blew the turbo just after lunch....may I be as bold to suggest that had I continued through the afternoon AND tried to do a few laps ON MY OWN rather than with numerous passengers then I'm pretty confident I could have taken a further 3 - 5 secs off !!!!

Now, to the other stated times.....

This car USED to run a T34B hybrid turbo with a massive spec resulting in it running circa 2 bar boost @ approx 440 bhp @ 400 lbs torque..... it achieved those times in this guise !

I bought the car from the chap and he had pre- sold this turbo and fitted a brand new STANDARD turbo which I obviously blew on Saturday !

Now, I have coming tomorrow from Turbo-Technichs the same T34B hybrid turbo which will be going onto the car.....it's also going back into a reputable RS tuner for re-mapping etc.....

The car will then be capable of even better times around these same circuits again

Let me say this though....... I love scoobs....of any denomination and always will....I will always have one around me....coz as you know Tim... I deal in them.... BUT there ain't a scoob out there in the UK which is an amateur road going legal car that could live with this £7k cossie of mine.... FACT !

So, your point Tim is what ?

Chris.... somewhat confused !

hmmm, i'd like to see a heavy tin top with less than 400/ton do donny in 1.16 and cadwell in 1.32.... both those times are better than a very well driven R500's times i.e. single seater times

its just not feasible

jackal - depends on the driver mate, and Mellow is one top driver so very believable.

I'm sure he has better things to do than have to prove himself to us lot anyway, so wouldn't post misleading times.

R500s do the stdg 1/4 in 12.5secs @ 117 - not slow.

A lot of owners can't drive them though.

But most Caterhams/Westfields are never as quick as a powerful road car above 100mph....

"jackal - depends on the driver mate, and Mellow is one top driver so very believable"

yes of course it does ... but i am talking about competitive times .. i.e very very well driven (not commonplace trackday speeds). i.e. the laws of physics come in to play at some point... remember that something like 1.33 at cadwell is a competitive R500 time with a very very good driver (i.e. you wont really get the car to go any faster). Richard Ince (centurian challenge winner, 750mc caterhgam champ. winner) does a 1.34 and his R500 is not standard !

So how the cossie with much lower bhp/ton can go faster, brake in a shorter distance (despite twice the weight) and also corner harder (despite twice the weight) is a mystery to me. I doubt that a road spec R500 could manage 1.16 at Donnington... regardless of driver. Even a proper racing car, something like a Van Diemen FF2000 with wings and slicks could only do around the 1.31 mark at Cadwell.... and cars such as these are in a totally different stratoshpere in terms of cornering/braking/accel to *ANY* road car.

Im sure mellow is a great driver but his post indicates that it was the previous owner (not himself) who got those times (other than the croft one.)

And one last thing, R500's are very fast up to 100 (like under 7 seconds) but they are also very fast after 100mph... if you disagree then you simply haven't been in one. In any case, top speed is one of the very least important factors when it comes to lap times... sorry, but it means nout and in any case all teh circuits mentioned (apart from maybe donnington) dont even play into the hands of high speed. Also, single seaters are VERY fast everywhere, at 10mph and at 140mph ... esp. given the aerodynamics. A regular caterham superlight with 130bhp and only capable of 120mph top speed will beat 99% of road cars on UK circuits.... just goes to show... top speed counts for little if anything.

(David - i might be a half-decent driver one day if i keep the hobby up but at the moment i am positively average IMO.. thanks for being kind tho ;-) )

Craig, they aren't slow you are right, handle better, corner better, brake better, yet still never been passed by one down the back straight of dono....

Next you will be saying the radical is fast in a straight line

Question

Mmmm....

Difficult one which I'm unable to defend due to you correctly pointing out that it was the previous owner/driver who claimed these times and not I.

I do believe that 1 min 16 secs on the National @ Donny may have been feasable seeing as though I was able to do a 1 min 19 sec in the STi RA V Ltd, and from my own experience at Croft last Saturday the car on it's STANDARD turbo did do 1 min 38 secs with only 2 other cars quicker and they indeed were both R500 superlights with a few extra bits.... they were doing 1 min 35 secs.. !!!! (Oh and driven exceedingly well ! )

Dingy, I accept your comments mate...what do I know.

David, each time you open your mush, $hite just seems to spill out of it... we'll sort this out the next time we meet up.

1.35 is a good time for a 190bhp elise

an R500 on slicks could manage around 1.26-1.27 at croft

(the itc superlight race cars (200bhp ... not 230bhp note) qualify at 1.25)

Mellow, not being arsey here, but Paul Baileys MK 2 was doing 1.14-1.16 at ND this year, there is no scoob in the UK that will be as fast as that.

I have never been over taken by any car like i was parked up like that.

Gareth Lloyds 560bhp escort was doing 1.14, and he won the handling circuit at ten of the best, i reckon you would be very lucky to get into the low 120's to be perfectly honest.

Why are you so aggressive ? Surely you're not still smarting about the number of complaints made about you at Donington are you ?

we'll sort this out the next time we meet up.
Care to clarify what you mean by this ?

Paul Baileys MK 2 is ineed unbelievable having been out with it at a recent Rockingham trackday

To be honest though any times I care to post have usually be given to me by pit wall spectators and we all know how accurate these can be....wrist worn Timex and Casio's probably ain't the best way to do it eh !!! Bit like me and Craig at last Novembers SIDC day @ Donny on the national both of us toe to toe, my P1 totally std in the engine/power dept (apart from a zorst) but well set up and Craig monster with heaps of power but std on it's set up...we were told by more than one person we were lapping at 1 min 22's in traffic ! Craig ?

So, why shouldn't a better set up car with lots more power/torque etc...and potentially lighter (stripped out saph coss) not do anything from 3 - 8 secs better ?

Anyway, Cadwell this Friday so I'll be brutally honest as always and post the best achieved times up here (Pauls there in his MK2 also )

I know how fast saff's are round dono, and your being about 320bhp wouldn't lap in that good a time, unless you have BOLLLOX bigger than my heeeeeed

Can't wait to get mine on the track again

Especially when Mr Bailey will be chasing me with the new lump in

My point is "pointless" really. Just noticed the car on Findit and thought it looked like the one you recently bought that was all. You get through cars that was all!

Didn't wish to cause you hassle or debate on lap times, such things mean nothing to me!

Incedentally Steve Simpson has now been to visit me

Dingy we all know that a hybrid T34 is good for around 420 brake.
Have you bought yourself a new manifold yet ? Perhaps thats why you have never managed to get any decent power!!!!!

strange that dingy actually used a t34 to get 400 bhp then rattles of some more rubbish about flow rates.

Craig H i have seen you car in action and it was laughable and so are you. The difference between you and me craig is that I actually have plenty of money to waste unlike yourself which is apparent you only have to see your heap in the flesh.

cossie, i got 405 from a t35, 440 is a bit more.

As you know so much about my car, why don't you tell me how much the t34 can flow ?

And why my car is only 405 and not 440 ??

I know Mellow very well and was just taking the pish with him, you come in here quoting stuff that really doesn't concern you, who mentioned manifold's what are you on about ?
