Question

Just been offered a bay-window VeeDub camper for £1k. It's just failed its MOT because of play on the front axle, so needs work, but nothing scary.

Used to own a tweaked Beetle, so I know my way around these things. But, any advice (good or bad)? Really ought to be ploughing the spare dosh I have into my house, but a camper for a grand sounds too good to be true!!!!

Thoughts anyone?

Learn to push!

Sorry had to get that one in there.

Sounds a bargain, if you've got the time to and patience to get it right.

a friend has one...mechanically they are pretty easy to live with.

only problem is they nearly always need welding for the mot (lot of metal to rot, i guess)

still for a grand...

when youve got it all done up, spray the underneath with oil or similar and then screw some sheets of steel or similar over the underneath after. two advantages, 1 it'll keep all the dirt etc off all those nooks and crannies, 2 it may help slightly with the mpg

Thumbs up

My brotyer is into all this VW stuff and his mate has bay window camper which is very nice indeed and is worth around 10k.

If you have the time and money go for it.

Drop a scooby in the back while your at it.

Sod the Scooby engine - I'm thinking supercharger!!!!! 50bhp to 150bhp in 4 bolts

Thanks for the feedback - particularly like the idea of welding the plates underneath I know it's the sort of car that'll need the complete undersection replacing. But, if you do it once, it's done for the next 10 years.

Then, of course, there's the real bonus - a nice PROPER flat4 engine - none of this jap rubbish
(By the way, my real car's a Legacy, so I'm not entirely serious )
