V70 R AWD vs WRX Wagon
#1
I know these are totally different cars but what are pros and cons of ownership of either?
If you had £20k to spend do you get new WRX Wagon or V70 R AWD with 40k on the clock?
New V70 R out in 2004 so do I go WRX until new Volvo comes out?

Ok - I think you are already clued up enough to know what the pros and cons are to be honest plus the comments you've had sum them up.
If you want a couple of other off-the-wall suggestions at the £15-20k mark, and don't rule them out yet !
1. Skoda Octavia 4x4 Estate
- demo model for under £14k
- modify invisibly at AMD (Do all the Audi mods) or Jabbasport to 210/220 bhp
2. Mazda 6 2.3 4x4 Sport Estate
- Out soon
- 165 bhp only but a different angle

... and I enjoyed my A4 Avant Quattro V6 Tdi with 185bhp so have you thought about the 1.8T Quattro Sport Avant which came with 180bhp rather than 150 and also was very capable with 210/220bhp with still decent (for a petrol!) mpg

I've driven a V70 R AWD but never even been a passenger in a WRX so I know nothing about their capabilities.
From reading stuff on here I am now a little reluctant to go for test drive at dealership as they seem to be generally unhelpful.
When I said pros and cons I meant cost of ownership, I see people talking about services every 7,500 miles is that necessary for all WRX's?
What about exhausts and stuff and general mechanical costs.
I am not knowledgable about the mechanics of cars so would never contemplate doing anything myself so is it going to cost me a fortune to own either of these cars or indeed the Audi etc..
Have had Mk 2 Golf GTi and Cav SRi 16v in the past and both cost me a fortune at the garage.
I would just like to be well informed before buying another car.

If cost of ownership is an issue, do not rule out the Skoda - seriously. Here's the scenario:-
1. Buy with demo miles for (say £14k) to give 3 year warranty
2. Comes with variable servicing as standard (Like VAG) 15-19,000m
3. Has the same suspension, gearbox, engine, electrics etc etc as Audi
4. Visit auto-amd who are the only tuners that Audi tacitly allow
a couple of their dealers to have their cars tuned at.
5. For £595 have the ECU invisibly remapped (Skoda diagnostics
cannot see the change at service) to 210bhp.
6. Enjoy the stun factor - IF the name doesn't bother you.
7. vwvortex.com has a lively Skoda forum like this one - services
seem to be well under £200 for each service - excellent value
8. ps I nearly traded the Subaru for an RS model for the above
reasons.
