We wanted to try the bodies on our Astra, but with it being GpN we couldn't. We just ripped all the internals out of the stock metering unit & body, bored it out a little, and put a bigger butterfly in On the grounds that it's only illegal if you get caught doing it
P.S. Emerald contact no's are: Phone 0207 737 7114 Fax 0207 737 7611. I found it was better to fax them, with my requirements & engine spec.
My unit was £600 inc VAT & postage, with another £25 for a throttle potentiometer. This covered the ECU, Software for the laptop, Comms leads, and Plug & Pins for building into my loom.
Hope this helps.
BTW the other set up I looked at was the Lumenition kit, this again looked to be very impressive, but was more money than I wanted to pay.

I have an F reg MK2 8 valve, love Golfs to bits, have had 2 MK1's and 3 mk2s
Was on Three Sisters yesterday (ooerr) Karting, would love to take my Golf round there, when is this event and how much ?
What is a Seat Leon 20VT, is it 150 bhp cos my Golf kept up with one of those up to a ton today, its still a usefully quick car which when I have finished with it will be properly quick

I've been round three sisters in the Green Beast above
It was a good laff.. would definitely suit my scooby, more bends than straights .. Gaz needs to find out about when we are going on tho again...
The Dubsport Lads are organising something i think.. I'm sure they won't mind me in the Scoob tho

roflmao. Scooby owners always resort to "the twisties" when they know there car's slower.
Who gives a **** about the twisties, get to the straights and prepare to be overtaken. This golf, if the suspension's well sorted would give a Subaru Sport a run for its money any day.

Gaz, nice motor mate, not sure about the colour though
Are you putting a 16V in her, or sticking with a nice 8V?
It lloks like I'm going to have to get a step on with mine now, it's only been seven years since I took her apart, and that was supposedly only to change the shocks

mine has been two years in the making, its just an 8v gti engine at the moment, it seems to be more torquey lower down, and the bits are cheaper on an 8v,
lets do a comparison...
8v dizzy £50/£25 local scrappy
16v dizzy £180/£100 local scrappy.
you decide, gearboxes are cheaper too, and so on, and so on. Plus it will kick scooby sport ***!!!!

Been there done that, third quickest British MK1 golf at GTI International 2000, only really those crazy Dutch MK1's that beat it!, twas a crappy looking but solid driver shell(re-shelled it after my Campaign roted out) complete with faded Mars red paintwork, bent rear bumper, dented passenger door Matt black TSW evo's and running on Koni fully adjustable (height and damping) suspension, i was running 190bhp at the crank- 159 at the wheels at 7200rpm, 1.8KR 16valve, flowed, ported and polished head,Ashley 4-1 and half system, Bosal OE rear box with the baffle spider knocked out, Twin 45 Webbers with 38 chokes on a Mangoletsi inlet manifold.
Bearing in mind Inters sprint is uphill, crap surface and my clutch was knackered (my mate completely fried it on a run that he did at the end of the day!) i ran a 14.41 1/4 and 0-60 in 6.05secs with an open diff and a relatively sane pull away (ie no 6000rpm dump the clutch technique!)
I sold it shortly after as it only did 20mpg!! and i was commuting in it 82 miles a day with a stripped interior (no headlining, carpet, door cards, centre console etc!) and it was bloody noisey!, shortly afterwards i got a job locally and wish i kept it- i really embarased a few cars with that one!
If you can i would really go for a 16 valve as there is NO lack of torque with these engines in the lightweight MK1, you will struggle to get 170 out of a 8v even with cam and Webbers unless you goto 2 litre.
Good luck and lets see the finished pics soon!!

8v engines are much cheaper parts wise, its only a play thing, can get hold of a 2.0litre block from r reg gti for approx £100
Had a mk2 2.0 16v (r reg audi block) it was fast, my mate has the engine in his car now, at this years inters he was running 15 sec qtrs.
The mk1 has been totally stripped and re-built, no rust or rot, dubsport gave me the figures i presume at the flywheel, I will leave it in their more than capable hands, i would imagine 150bhp should be easy enough seeing as though its over 100bhp as standard.
Get another one, we can play then!!!!
cheers
Gaz
p.s i will post pics on here as and when its finished

Mines just in the process of coming together, 1.6 8V with lightened internals, high compression ported head, lumpy cam of german origins (Schrick, I think),with Emerald ignition & injection ECU on digifant injectors & four choke throttle bodies (used to be dell'orto 40's form an Alfa). The box is a 1.6 5 speed with uprated synchros and a quaife torque bias diff.
I'm hoping to lose about 50-60kg from the overall weight, giving me 810kg ish, and end up with about 135-140 bhp.
This willgive me a power/weight of 170ish bhp/tonne, against 165ish for my scoob. And I'm betting there will be a damned sight more fun in the using of the golf
