I cant say for sure the details, but a friend who sells cars, would refer the the normal M3 as rubbish. While the Evo is a completely different car. He says there is no comparison between them. I do know that the engines, while similar, are def not the same. The Evo apparently has different suspension all round, better brakes, 6sp sequential box ( not sure if all evos have that ). The 2 cars just arent the same.
Either of them still wouldnt interest me anyway. They all look like 316's with a set of alloys. Having said that, If it was an Evo with a Superchager or Turbo fitted....

The bodykit was/is the same, the EVO model did come with a lower front lip as standard though.
The EVO had clear/red rear lights, clear front/side repeaters, 6 speed box, uprated suspension/brakes, 321bhp 3.2litre engine.
I very nearly purchased a convertible EVO model (have previously owned a E36 M3 Convertible and it was soft as sh1te), the EVO feels like a different car, very smooth, very powerful.
I think the EVO may have come with an improved LSD and traction control as an option.
The M3 (3.0) is regarded as a better base from a tuning point of view, the M3 EVO is a much improved car as standard.
Personaly I would opt for the M3 EVO over the M3.

OK, I sat in an EVO today and I can tell you this thing is ridiculously fast - it got to 100mph in no time, and in 3rd. Too much fun! I have a UK 99 scooby and I didn't think there would be that much difference, but there certainly is!

EVO also had quicker steering, with less power assistance, but was still recirculating ball type, therefore bugger all 'feel'
