VX220 performance

to be honest i'd rather have an elise (i thought vx220 were 170ps?? == 160bhp??) just they weigh a shed load less, but:
a) they are vauxhall
b) they have a vauxhall badge
c) no electic windows
d) no 4wd
e) no massive spoiler
f) a standard uk my99 should be able to beat it in a race, and **** all over it on wet twisties...
g) 5.6 is what it says on a mag, if the driver want's to detroy a clutch or gearbox - and if the driver is anygood... otherwise i guess the vx220 will be sat there wheel spinning
e) my99 can hit 145/155 easily
f) modded my99 will easily beat it
g) a jap sti would easily beat it
h) tell him to buy an Elise or Exige

A mate of mine is about to buy a VX220, I have a standard MY99 TURBO, is this going to cause me any problems on the road? I've got a stereo install which must push my weight up a little but its nothing mental. Any ideas how these cars compare? I know the vx220 is all based on power to weight and will probably die at 100mph

I span mine on sunday (company car) - the thing is lethal in the wet!
i've done about £3000's worth of damage from a 10 mph spin....
I'd be really pissed if it was mine and id done that
performance i reckon is on a par with a UK scooby though!

can't find any specs on the uk website. Mechanical specs are 'mid engined, 5 speed bo, and 2 cat' woopeeee!
I thought this was a performance car...maybe I'm crap at surfin...
more on aesthetics from wot I can see

right, i see, how about on the road cos the guy cant drive to save his life so i can probably out drive him around the bends ANYWAY, but from the lights its a little less easy to gain time with skill

Have you ever driven one ***** ??
Its a trackcar/roadster so why should it come with
1. 4WD
2. Elec windows
3. Spoilers
The turbo will come with around 190BHP. a Standard Impreza will not leave it at all. Take it on a track and it will leave the Impreza.
I really cant beleive a Scooby driver is mocking the style of the car and the interior spec..... Impreza interiors are laughable and very tacky (yes I have seen them)
Have a drive in the VX220 and then your comment may be valid about its performance..... Till then you are just spouting hot air and cementing the Impreza Drivers rep as the most "head stuck up ****" driver.

thats why i ask, need an objective view, you saying that the vx220 turbo will beat me, well sure it will its a mid engined roadster with rear wheel drive and almost same power, but the standard one??

>> you'll be faster everywhere else
maybe, maybe not, depends on the driver. I reckon the Vx220 will give a good show around the bends, felt fast when I drove it on circuit, if a little too much understeer.
If you really want to beat him, do it in the wet

Thats my point.
Impreza is more of a road car than a track car and vice-versa for the VX220. You cant possibly say one is better than the other in all conditions yet some ppl here are doing just that.

thats what i've been trying to say, i came from an rs turbo and that was relatively quick but didnt prepare me for my scooby, he has a hyundi accent!!! 0-60 in 12secs, he is gonna kill himself in a vx220, he has no history of quick cars at all, i worked my self upwards, he is just jumping!

Right ...
Don't worry too much about your mate killing himself ... if he has 2 braincells he will not immediately crash the VX220, unless in very unlucky conditions (no disrespect intented).
Puny engine... the engine is a normal 2.2 litre 16v Vauxhall/Opel engine, 147 BHP, not overstressed at all, but having to carry 100 kg more weight than an Elise. Euro 4 norm compliant.
My wife runs one as her daily work car and she is over the moon about it. It is setup for understeer really (more than an Elise, see bicycle sized front tyres ), but is pretty planted in the dry. In the wet, handle with care just as any mid engine RWD car.
5.6 claims are not correct IMHO (try repeating that), gearing is just too short (on a fabulous Getrag gearbox BTW) to reach 100 km/h (it might just hit 60 MPH at the rev limiter), but it is indeed pretty quick from the line. Rumour goes though that the rev limit on press cars was raised a tad to get those numbers).Beyond 70 MPH, it would be a tad slower than a UK turbo, but on track it might surprise a few. Top speed is 210 km/h (130 MPH ish).
We bought one because it seemed a "safer" version of the Elise (exactly same space frame chassis), bit more understeer, with a more reliable engine, but with less "poser value". Got ABS, Elise doesn't.
Whether the turbo version will arrive is still to be seen ... sales seem to be horrible for the NA version (they planned 9.999, but might only have sold 5000 or so). There is a prototype "Funster" made by Steinmetz in Germany with 210 BHP, but that's not going into production.
Speedsters are partially assembled at Lotus BTW (frame is made in Norway)
Biggest downside (but that may be just our bad luck): car was loosing paint after 4 months. Just had a full respray done (warrenty) and after 3 weeks it's cracking again But as I said, maybe we are just very unlucky.
Brakes work fine (AP standard), but the ABS might come in too early on track.
Looks is very personal thing, disliked them at first, now madly in love with them (Opel badge or not).
Dealers... well, let's not get there
Finally, there is a mailing list (like IWOC) called vx220@yahoogroups.com for more information.

Scooby Regular
VX220 is a VERY capable car. I was chauffered round the Jerez GP track by Jason Plato (admittedly a very capable driver) in one a couple of years ago - it was a hoot.
I would have one for a track day car myself. In EVO's track day car of the year it put in faster times than an EVO7! (admittedly the sprint version).
