Leon Cupra R officially better than a Civic Type R

And thus it was written in the bible, evo magazine.
Argue 0-60s all you want, but in the real world, on British roads the Leon is King.
In fact the current WRX should be a little worried....

Plus, in my opinion the Leon looks considerably better than the CTR. To me its a bit of Delta Integrale for the new millennium... 5 doors, 210bhp, aggressive looks, Hmmmmm...

I'm assuming it's 2wd?
Either way, with 210bhp it probably will keep with a new WRX from 30+ in a straight line - the 210bhp S3 was very close, and the Leon is probably lighter than the S3? Don't know what Leon is like around corners, especially in the wet?
Still don't feel the need to change my MY02, though.

Test driving a Cupra R later on today, so i'll give you the low-down. EVO said that it corners really well, although it'd be hard not to grip on the boots its wearing. 225/40 R18 P-Zero Rosso as standard? Nice...

Well, test drove the Cupra R yesterday.
Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwww.
That is one bl00dy fantastic motor.
It feels like its got a hell of a lot more than 210bhp, but its not as hair-trigger as the scooby or CTR. As for the looks, if you like it in the photos you'll cream yourselves when you see it in the metal. The one i took out was a really dark grey/almost black colour and looked really aggressive.
The amount of grip it has for a FWD car is astounding, probably due to the huge boots its wearing. As is usual with the VAG 1.8T there's no real turbo lag, just loads of mid range punch and a great noise (but its no flat-four warble...). The point is though, its 5 grand cheaper than a scoob, more practical, and in real-world terms, just as fast. I would recommend it to anyone.

Ah, it was actually a Seat press car that a freind of mine had (he works for them), so whereas it was a lengthy drive, it wasn't a demonstrator. Tell you what though, as you're in the midlands and i'm in coventry, if he comes up in it again i'll mail you and see if you can get a spin in it.

Cheers! I'm in Rugby so it's not far at all. Any idea about delivery times? The guy at the dealers in Coventry said it could be a 6 months wait as all this years cars have been sold!

Thats pretty much spot on. But try going to www.seat-imports.co.uk and give them a ring to find out. Until recently they had a price of £14,500ish for the Cupra R, with 12-15 weeks wait.

It is getting great reports all round the press and motoring places, and has exceeded all sales axpectations by Seat. The first and second batches have apparently been sold out, your looking into next year for one now if you haven't already ordered it.

From a CTR driver:
Try http://www.4car.co.uk
for a slightly different perspective on the Leon vs. CTR debate.
I'm saying nothing but I bet you'll have guessed who wins that comparison.
As for Evo being a bible- nice pictures, shame about the words. About as reliable as an Alfa 33! And change their minds more often than Tony Blair.

I put in for a price from our fleet management department the other day. They were staight on the blower to let me know that the company had bought a 180bhp version of this car 6 months ago and things haven't stopped dropping off / breaking. And Seat have apparently been less than satisfactory with sorting (allegedly)
Got a few CTRs in the company apparently - no problems at all.
Shame - coz on paper I was very interested.

My mate has the 180bhp version and whilst he doesnt rack up the mileage he does give it some stick when he drives it and he hasnt had any probs with his.
Have only just run in my Octavia vRS so havent had chance to meet up with him yet but gonna be good fun when we do.. Anyways do our duelling in the rallycar usually - more fun and safer :-)
