Audi - procon ten(sp) safety system
#1
I was behind an H plate Audi today which had the 'procon ten' (or whatever it was called) safety system sticker on the back window.
Do Audi's still have these? From what I can remember from the adverts it was a system which in the event of a crash pulled the steering wheel and column into the dash and away from the drivers head. Seems a pretty clever invention to me.
Was it superceded by the airbag? I think an airbag will work out a lot cheaper than this system.
Anyone been in a crash in a procon ten equipped Audi? Did it work?

Wasn't that the system that had a chain arrangement and as the engine moved back in a frontal impact the steering wheel was pulled into the dash?
Wouldn't have thought it was compatable with airbags.

Yep all run airbags now!
the pro-con ten was very effective, it did tuck the wheel and column into the dash, and stopped you tw4ting your head or being beaten up by a air bag!
and yes they do work!

YEAH it worked, too well- if the car was involved in a bump it effectively wrote it off- good for accidents but not so good when and otherwise repairable car was a write off- hence why audi scrapped the system!
