My interest was peaked on Sat night while watching a car program. It showed a classic Mk1 Ford Escort with wide arches in "Gulf" rally colurs... one of my favourite motors..
But this was different , it had a Cossie turbo'd motor......
Does anyone have any info on this?? Is it a standard/easy conversation, is it frowned upon by enthusiasts as changing a classic??? And above all are they easy/cheap to get hold off???
Any info much appriecated

The cossie turbo engine is based on the old sohc Pinto block. The 2.0l sohc pinto is the same engine used in the mkI and mkII RS2000's. So if you've got a mkI RS2000 the engine mounts, bellhousing, gearbox will all fit the cossie turbo engine. If you've got any other flavour of mkI escort then RS2000 engine mounts, bellhousings etc etc are easily available.
That said I would think all the electronics would be 100 times more difficult to sort than the hardware oily bits so this is likely to be the biggest difficulty. There are still loads of shops selling everything from the smallest bit to complete bodyshells fully prepared to go rallying.

The electronics aren't as difficult as you'd think. You simply bin all the ford emissions freindly crap, and buy an off the shelf aftermarket performance biased ECU (complete with highly road-illegal anti-lag system)from the likes of Emerald, MBE, Pectel, Recelogic, etc, plug-in and play on

Do it!
Heres my MKII, had it a Crail on Sunday. If you want fun on four wheels, you'd be struggling to better a Cossie powered rwd Escort!
As for wiring if you you've got the Cossie loom and ECU its only four wires to connect to the original loom.

The car is basically built to GRP 4 spec with a Cosworth YB running stage 3 chip, greens, T35 and RS500 sized intercooler.
Last time it was on the r/road it made 291 @the wheels on 18psi. Its now running 22psi but haven't had a chance to get it back on the rollers yet. Oh and the quickest run of the day was 13.48s/110mph (with my seriously crap gearchanges)
