The girlfriend wants one of these to go with our Scooby. Anyone owned one - not so bothered about how it drives but would appreciate comments on build quality/reliability/running costs etc. Its basically for a bit of topless posing (ooh err ) but without looking like too much of an MX5/MGF/MR2 style hairdresser. Only time I ever got very close to one was at the motorshow one year and it had started falling apart from all the people getting in and out. Probably looking at 2.0L with Lusso pack - can't afford the 3.0 V6 ()

Muvva in law has a 2.0GTV - R reg. Nice car, but i hate the way they look.

She has had a few probs with it - air con packed up last summer on the way to Italy, and exhaust has just had to be replaced, but she loves it.

Exhaust cost a small fortune from dealer, and now it has almost 80k on it, its getting more and more expensive to maintain as things are starting to go on it.

I have a friend who can give you the inside information, but to give you the bare basics, his Spider 97 P-reg with low miles was the most unreliable heap of doo-doo. I don't know what it cost in repair bills for the year he had it, let alone the group 17 insurance. On second thoughts I know the repair bills were comfortably in excess of £3k and it was off the road for at least 2 months during that time. But it was lovely to look at and drive when it was working properly.

Unhappy

Shame these guys can't work out how to put 'em together properly - spoils a nice car, doesn't it.

Just bought a GTV 2.0,not the spider though.Sold the scooby last year to go travelling and bought this 3 weeks ago when i got back,to be a bit different!
Was fed up with 18MPG and had some horrific garage bills, gearbox, diff etc in only one year of ownership.
Always loved the look of the alfa but am a bit bored with it already!
Good points so far-
Over 300 miles to tank of fuel
Quality interior,
Bit of a magnet for the ladies!and not the police,
Bad bits-
No room inside
No boot,
Weird handling, understeer then oversteer in the same bend!,
Good performance for a 2litre but no scooby!

Dont know whether to recommend one or not, sorry!!
Colin.
