BMW 7 Series

Not sure about the new shape myself but reckon a second hand old model looks a bargain 2nd hand buy. Anyone got any experiences of them? I gather you can get a fully loaded 740I from around £15K.
Presumably they cost a stack to run though?

The just-superceded model is supposed to be a bit of a bargain. Costly in consumables like tyres & brakes but they're supposed to be bulletproof otherwise -- I think Quentin Willson's already done a bit on them being real bargains used.
I remember the 728i has all the toys, and an Autocar long-term test of it found it had surprisingly low fuel consumption -- around 27mpg, which isn't bad for such a luxo-barge.
I reckon the new 7-series is pug-ugly compared with the new S-Class Merc ... but I can't afford either of 'em, so maybe I'm just jealous

I had a 735i SE - great car and ave. 24mpg on mixed Mway and town according to the on-board computer.
They have a firmer ride than the 5-series, which surprised me, but handled quite well for a big car.
All in all a very refined and spec'd car and I think they look much better than the equiv' Mercs.
