VW mk5 Golf Gti Edition 30
Looking at one of these as a run around. Anyone had one? Got any views on them and tuning potential. Been looking at a stage 1 map from the likes of MRC, VAGtech (Revo Map), R-tech. After any advice on who to use as I'm not to clued up on VW tuning

Not fully clued up on them but I do know the ed30 have the better proper forged engine so have a good tuning potential, different block to the normal gti so nothing to worry about by tuning them.
And I think they have the better k04 turbo set up too, similar to the later s3, cupra k1 etc

R-tech are the place to go. If it's a manual you will def need your clutch changed as they have the same one as the normal GTI.
Front wings and front of the sills will need to be checked for rust. A sound deadening foam piece was inserted into the wing and holds water. The arch liners are to big and wears through the paint. With the sill apparently the machines at the factory grabbed them to tightly.
Change the cam follower for piece of mind. Cloth seats wear on the bolster really badly. If you only go stage one remap you can add a few more ponies by smashing the contents out of the front cat. This is for cold start emissions in europe and doesn't apply in U.K. Your car will still pass MOT.
They have a K04 turbo as apposed to the K03s of the GTI.

Thanks for the replies guys. Was looking at the DSG as it'll be used for the commute and fancy the ease of the box. Thanks for the advice on cam followers I'll take a look into it. Was looking to have a stage 1 installed just to get a little more out of it without the need of dropping too much cash into it. Toying between, MRC, VAGtech (they do the Revo Map) and as you say R-tech however I've never heard of the later but you'd recommend them? Have you had any dealings with them
Thanks
Thanks

Busta while speaking with vagtech Re the Revo software they said that they tune the software to the car in question as that was one of my concerns
PT82, R-tech are getting a lot of positive comments from non vw forums such as yourself so think I'll be giving them a shout up in the week
