Urgent Advice
Any advice would be appreciated, my wife has an Audi A3 tfsi 2.0 turbo the drive chain snapped 2 days ago.I will be having the head taken off today to see the extent of the damage, I have been quoted silly amounts of money by Audi for an engine rebuild pretty much making the car worthless, I have checked the value of the car if it was in full working order and its worth around 8k.
What would be my best options for recouping some sort of money back, I.E breaking what is left of the car finding someone they will rebuild the car at reasonable price. At this present moment in time I'm considering walking away from the car and buying something else (Not an Audi)
Any Information or advice at all would be appreciated
Thanks Daniel

Dont let Audi touch it. I had a problem which they couldn't diagnose, without Audi wanting me to spend £3k to pull heads to investigate problem, Then quote me silly money for repair, making car worthless. Got rid, sold other Audi we had due to experience of Audi service and bought different brand vehicles

what year is the car and do you have the engine code?
Be very carefull buying a second hand head as the cam shafts seize on them too ive seen a few customers buy second hand engines to find the new engine they have bought are also scrap. For that reason the heads or decent second hand motors are rare and expensive if you do find one.

If it was me i would prob go for the second hand engine for £2k then you still have a working £8k car. even if you sold it a few months down the line for £8k your much better off than if you sold now for £3k!

What age and mileage did the chain let go at?
I would be trying to figure out why this may have happened, if the car is worth 8K it suggests it is not that old, and spaceship mileage may not be the critical factor.
I know its not the same situation, but I had a timing belt let go on a seat leon years ago (the only job my car go the garage for is timing belts - idiot replaced the belt and not the tensioner) I had a reputable VW specialist strip it down, replaced the valves (did them all as I wanted to keep the car), replaced the cam shafts as there was wear on one of the lobes, had the head skimmed (didn't need done but chose to have it done) and refitted.
It cost me £1,800 back then, but it made a great improvement to the car, and increased the mpg. I had 120K on it when the belt let go, drove it for another 85,000 before changing it for another car.
