Default A class AMG

Went into the Mercedes garage on Friday to look at the A class and left more confused than when i went in. Salesperson was on her 3rd day so admitted she wasnt fully clued up. Basically whats the difference between the models? There was a AMG listed at 41k which i thought was the top model, yet then i spotted a 4matic that was aprox 48k.

I now no longer know which model im looking for, basically im thinking the 360bhp one with semi auto box but not sure on its correct model name.

A45 AMG would be the hot hatch version like below

GLA45 AMG looks like the A45 but higher

CLA45 AMG is like the A45 but with a boot!!

That sums it up pretty well. Bear in mind Merc ate starting to use 'AMG Sport' the same as SLine or Msport - i.e. a way of tarting up diesels for the vain.

GLA45 is mostly for the yank market as they refuse to drive hatches but love "suvs"

The GLA's wheels are nicer IMO. The CLA is hideous, looks like it parked to close to the fire and melted the rear into a saggy ****. The new C class saloon is the same, which was a nice looking car until this latest 'update'

Sound like the sales lady was confusing the "A250 AMG-Sport 4Matic" with the "A45 AMG 4Matic".

The A45 is the fast one (360bhp), Whilst the A250 is not so fast (still 211bhp). Both are 4pot petrol turbos with AWD and dual-clutch automated gearbox, hence the confusion.

"AMG-sport", "AMG-Night Edition" and "Engineered by AMG" are all interior/exterior trim options.

4Matic is to Merc what Quattro and 4motion is to VAG and Xdrive is to BMW.

I should be a car salesman ...At least I know what I'd be selling. OK its her first few days, but I've met salespeople who whilst working in the same position for years who, for example, do not understand what adaptive suspension is, what it does, its importance (and cost)...nor if any of their current stock has it fitted

Yet the Mini sold like hot cakes over there

I suppose it does explain Mini's constant (and tragic styling-wise) efforts at making it bigger and making the pseudo SUV version....all of which should be called Maxi IHMO.

Ali summed it up really I have the 45 check the rear only the 45 comes with square tailpipes all the rest are round....

GLA is slightly more money exactly same internally on all 3 bar a few cm in leg room

If you spec up an A45 right it will cost you around 43ish, if you need advice on what to spec nudge me, I,ll advise you then You make the call....

Ok my view ok so some may not agree.

AERO Defoe helps,hold residual
Definitely get 19inch black wheels , normal wheels look poo
Get steering wheel pack, include SLS gear **** and magnesium paddles doing it once you've got it will cost 1000s, give you a fury steering wheel too
Performance exhaust

Gear box isn't an option it's 7speed auto always... Lots of other extras but price climbs lol

Here's mine

I assume they do an estate type model in this range? What's it called exactly? I actually really like the look of the CLA45.

Thanks Urban. Why on earth is it called 'shooting brake?' If I had the money, I'd have one of those in white .

Think I'm getting too old
I'd feel a right bellend driving one of those round!
On the other hand, feeling like a bellend in a 360hp shouty hatch v driving a 228hp soot chucker would leave me with not choice other than accepting that I am in fact a bellend

Its technically not a shooting brake. A SB should be a 2
Door estate.

These days its used because 'estate' isn't fashionable.

I guess they could have used the word wagon? That would make clearer sense (to me anyway).
