Default TEDS wife's Car quest

Ok so kids have left home, sons in the Army Daughters at Uni and I have one little one left ( yes she was planned lol ) ok so wife has the pimped up zafira tourer VXR kit etc but I'm thinking of something new.

I want a hot hatch for her however she would like a VW camper also, but the new surf and California are quite steep...

So let's get back to the good stuff , I'm stuck between a few of the new 30k hatches so can we start a discussion on which.

First up
GOLF R
Second
Civic Type R in white or Blue
Third
Focus RS however deals ford do are white even finance is bab
Fourth
S3
fifth

Looking at a new car, from a main dealer?

Manual or automatic?

Golf R or A45 would get my vote at the moment.

If I had the money the A45 AMG would be my first choice, but you said you already have one, so Golf R

My missus loves our Golf R, and you can put it in 3 modes(Race, Normal, Eco) So when you jump in it you can select Race(exhaust gets louder, steering stiffens up etc) and then your missus can put it in normal/eco, and use it like you would with a normal Golf.

DSG box is great, gear changes are smooth, and in race mode it gives it a little pop and crackle like the A45 AMG(just not as loud as the AMG) Im getting about 25mpg with a bit of fast road/normal driving, Insurance seems to be mega cheap on the R for some reason.

Saw a nice looking Blonde lass (about 30'ish years old) in a White Golf R the other day. Had the optional 19" wheels (That not many choose), and I have to say, it always makes a girl look hot driving a decent performance car.

Why not just get what she wants, can't say I really see the point of buying another hot hatch when you've got one of the best out there already.

Either that or give her the A45 and step up to something else yourself, R35, M3 etc?

If it was a ugly blonde bird(about 30'ish) in a red Golf R, that would be my missus mate!!!

Yep I'd also say get what she wants, you have what's arguably the best hot hatch so why would you want another £30/40k car that's pretty much the same.

With that money you could have a decent camper or boat and a Westfield for yourself.

Always make the Mrs a happy bunny because what do happy bunnies do.

Get a T5 and build a camper yourself, or get a converters to build one for you, better spec that a Cali and a lot cheaper, I built my own!

Get the California, the fit and finish is miles ahead of any home build. The T5 is great, I've had a factory Kombi for 8 years, it's been excellent and has only lost a third of what I paid for it, which is nice.

But the Cali's are so bland inside, for the price of one I'd be wanting more, some of the convertors out there produce far superior products, the likes of Newwave custom, and you get what you ask for rather what is built for the masses.

And they have cookers inside I much prefer to cook outside under an awning or with just wind breakers, you don't get all the smells and condensation in the van then, decent fold up cooker with legs and a grill is like £60, if it rains got to the pub or get fish and chips.

Mazda bongo for £5k jobs a good un.

Now thats a question!!!

For what I have you'd be looking at around 30k with a lot of the work done yourself, that was using a 2010 T5.1 T30 (facelift) with 35k on the clock as a base van.

The good thing about a DIY build is you can taylor it to your and your family needs rather than what someone else thinks you want. We have a young daughter so the rear RIB seat being fully tested was a must for us but at over 2k adds to the cost, along with a crash tested poptop ar 3.5k so she has somewhere to sleep, also a set of 20's is another £1000 so savings can be made where you need them.

Let me know if you want any more pics and will post up and and if you are really interested pop me a pm and will give you my mobile number so you can ask away!

Cheers
Arron

I'd still get the California, yours is wicked Abx, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't a lot less than a factory version and I've been put off self builds due to the amount of bits falling off and just looking a bit cheap when the felt starts to go.
