Default MK1 Escort - now running ST170 engine, OMEX throttlebodies and OMEX ECU

I thought I posted this on here.... obviously mistaken!

Well the story so far.... gotten bored at work, start a new contract, work hard for first few weeks and then bored. So missus and I decided I needed a project and decided to import car So started with a Ford Escort MK1.... then found out how much extra shipping was for 2 cars, so better idea, buy 2 cars

Well after a long wait and a bit of a complex process, they arrived. Happy with 1, not as happy with the other (but it was technically just for spare parts for the other one), with the possibility of selling the shell.

I have done it all and decided to continue with it as a business, well a bit of a sideline business. More than that another time.....

The cars:-

The white one.... this one has a 2.0l sapphire engine and is the first one to be worked on. Was running earlier in the week need to scavenge the dash, ignition and locks from the blue one and then source some bumpers and maybe some minilight (repilca) wheels. Last task is then to prepare the bodywork (some material under the paint, bad previous paint job, etc) and do a full wrap on it. I dont want to force my colour choice on the next owner, but will take pictures of the car before wrapping so that they know exactly whats under.

The blue one... was initial bought as spares for the first one, with idea of selling the shell and parts once done. The bodywork needs attention and the engine is incomplete (standard 1600 xflow engine). However, I am now tempted to rebuild the car, drop in a half decent engine and re-use the wheels from the white one.

Some more pics (sorry about the small pics and blue ones are on phone, not uploaded yet):-

Superb, I love old school cars
Of the two I'd have the white one although given the choice I'd go mk2

Yeah, but if my idea with prepping bodywork and wrapping works, it can be any colour it wants to be

The ideal end goal (for the exterior):-

Well to update this... the blue one has been sold to make room for another car. The white is currently away being stripped and resprayed and then having everything done to make it good, will be staying with the narrow body.

The blue one made way for this

Which RECENTly looked like this

Currently it has been soda blasted and is awaiting painting and re-assembly!

Yes, its a 240z UK original, RHD had some rust and needed some work, but that is all getting done now, should be rather nice once completed

Amazing what even non RS MK1 Escorts fetch. My friend just got 8750 for a restored one. Was a 1.2 but 2.0 Pinto converted. He's finishing another one now. His brother just sold an RS1600 which was a project for 9500. On a different note I also saw an E30 M3 Evo Sport on Ebay for £120k and two RS200s at over 190k. Prices just seem to keep spiking!

I can just about remember when owners could barely give RS200s away.

I love mk1's, I've always had an idea in my head how to try and modernise one up a bit (sacrilidge, I know), and one of the ideas floating around in my head was to black out the line that runs all the way around the side windows (and tint the windows to give a more one piece look), and your white one appears to have that done. Does it look ok or gash?

My other ideas are mould a grp grill and body colour it with single slot and black mesh, oval ford badge. More modern round headlamps (that you can get for land rover) more modern body colour door pull handles, modern door mirrors like new mini ones (body colour) chop a piece out of front quarter bumper brackets so they flush mount with body and you guessed it, body colour. More modern and more flush fitting indicators (or installed in headlamps), metal splitter welded on (as in the old style that you can already get) and cut holes in front valance, fabricate and weld to hold some round inset fog lights, rear bumper removed, some form of diffuser (Renault Clio or what ever fitted best) and some more modern flush fitting rear lights (same shape, just more modern looking, maybe with red tail lights that light up around the edges of the lamp unit, ala phantom)

And paint the whole thing steel grey, with more modern mini lite style of wheel (Mini Cooper)

Now, if someone could just knock that up on photoshop that would be great

Out of interest, if you wouldn't mind telling me, how much did the soda blast cost? Did they do the whole car, inside and out?

also, what was cost of getting the escort painted?

Thanks,

Nick.

love the mk1 escort but personally i would have the bubble arches fitted and the mexico stripe as apposed to the rs2000 one and also add the front splitter

but if i could have any ford escort in the world now or from the past there is only one very easy choice

but it wouldnt be right for me to have the car, i couldnt do it justice

Figured it would be slightly different from the usual RS2000 decals
