Sadly the guy doing the escort has gone into liquidation, such a shame as he is a brilliant painter! The car has been moved on to another mechanic who will be finishing it, some wiring, refit of the interior, brakes and make it run..... then MOT
Update:- after a long time getting this car (well the white one, blue one was sold) ready for the road, it did final make it and on a lovely summers day last year on my way back from Caffeine & Machine, the pinto engine gave up so over the last few months, a friend and I have been working on putting on ST170 ZETEC engine and 5 speed type 9 gearbox into the car.
As the car stands now ZETEC engine and 5 speed type 9 gearbox are now in the car! Waiting for some more parts to finish off the fuel system, induction and electronics. Hopefully in the next few months. The tinfoil hat is just while we paint the cam cover.... with throttlebodies and ECU should be good for 190BHP
Well the good news is that this is actually running..... have the engine and all running rather well. Need to get it mapped and finish off a few minor things on the interior, will do the mapping as soon as we can travel and there is no salt on the roads. Have a couple of videos on my phone, will dig them out and try to upload now
Provisionally booked in for mapping at the end of April at Surrey Rolling Road, the idea is that the car will be at Caffeine & Machine on 1 May with a few other friends.
The car made 183bhp at Surrey Rolling Road! Which I am very happy with....
Made it to Caffeine & Machine with no new issues, however the return trip highlighted an issue with the old fuse box (quite common) so will be switching to inline fuses. We also discovered a vibration on the prop shaft (most likely) but the car has never really been this fast before, so just working through the list of things to fix.
Yesterday the prop shaft went to a specialist and then immediately got put in the bin! Its out by quite a bit.... so a new one is being made up now, hopefully by the end of the week
Will be ordering up some inline fuse kits to remove the fuse box altogether.
Then we move onto the suspension and brakes. No idea how old the suspension is so will be having a good look. Same goes for the brakes, it has Hilux calipers on the front, but the feel is very wooden, drums on the rear may need some attention too.
Update time.... The escort is back on the road after we removed the crappy rear diff and went down the route of a fully prepared Kejja Motorsport rear axle, including rear caliper conversion and new Gaz rear suspension. Had to have the joint on the prop changed and the biggest issue so far was that I forgot to order new wheel nuts and the old ones are too short. So overall, good progress has been made... still need to change the old fuse box (fuses keep moving) to a set of inline fuses, change the front suspension and front seats (need something with head support). Oh yes and fix the rubbing.....and fix some of the gauges, ok its a long list of todo's
