Exclamation Head Gasket!!!! HELP NEEDED!!

So the worst news delivered to me by the RAC on sunday; "there's combustion gases in your coolant"

Just had a qoute from my usual mechanic to have the head gasket sorted who says he would have to do the timing belt at the same in order to guarantee the job so it would be in the region of £1,000 .

So i'm hoping some of you can give me some advice. I am either looking for a reccomendation of someone that may be able to beat this qoute even if it means i have to supply the parts myself.

Or a second option is to do it myself along with my cousin who has experience of engine work like this on scooby's.

Any reccomendations of mechanics or advice on carrying out this type of job would be highly appreciated as £1000 is way out of my price range!

Give Adam at Autotecnica a call. Buxton is much closer and he comes very higly recommended. I've used him for the last 3-4 years and I know that a lot of his customers travel for his skills.... and for good reason.

I would recommend Adam at Autotecnica in Buxton, he has just finished building a 2.5 forged engine for me which included a full overhaul of the heads. He has done a fantastic job at an extremely reasonable price. He has done loads of work on my last 3 Subaru's and I have always been very pleased with every job he has done.
