SUNDAY 18th OCTOBER 2009.

We are in the process of organizing a fundraising event to raise as much money as we possibly can for a small boy who has tragically had to have all his limbs amputated. For those of you who are unaware of the background of this tragic story, Harley Stack (aged just 4 years old) from Stockport, was struck down with the meningitis bug before developing septicemia which resulted in the amputation of all 4 limbs. During these events, Harley actually died a total of 3 times. The fact that he now needs prosthetic limbs for the rest of his life from such a young age has put a massive financial burden upon his mother and father. This could actually become an annual event if it’s at all successful.

The plan is at this stage for us to organize a fundraising event which will more than likely involve having a Mersey Tunnel Run for sometime in October. Please note that this event will not clash with any other events that have already been planned for that month!! Early indications are that its going to be a lot bigger than we first anticipated so before we can give anybody a definite date we have decided to contact the local Police so inform them of what we are planning and getting their permission to go ahead with it. Because of the large amount of early interest in this, we also have to make sure that the “meet-up point” is large enough to accommodate everybody that turns up. We also plan on contacting local radio stations and newspapers to highlight what we are doing.

Once I/We get more information, there will be regular updates on the thread so please keep your eyes pealed. Initially we plan on having a minimum contribution of £5 from every car attending and we are also looking into having some commemorative stickers made up for those people who feel like contributing a little bit more. I will start off the list of attendees, so if you could add your name to it if you feel that you will definitely be attending, that would be great. Also, if you feel that you want to purchase a sticker on the day, would you please also put the word “sticker” at the side of you name, just so we have an idea of how many to have made.

Can I also make it clear before we start this, that this is not just a “Scooby” event. There are other clubs and forums being invited to attend. This is not about whose car is better than whose and its not going to become something that’s going to attract bad press with people racing around Liverpool and get us banned from doing it again in the future. The whole idea and concept of this is to raise as much money as we can on the day and hopefully help out this young family.

I’ve already spoken to the official fundraiser who is highly delighted that we have come up with this plan so let’s please make this into an event we can all be proud of.

Thank you to everybody for the initial response to this. I've just received the Official letter from the fundraiser enabling us to proceed with getting this event underway. Phil, (TingTongPJ) is now going ahead with contacting the Police on Merseyside with a view to getting them onside whilst i start persuing other avenues with regards to the fundraising.

Once we get word back from the Police we will be able to give you a definate date!!!

This all depends on the outcome of the conversation we have with the Police. Providing everything goes to plan, I will shortly confirm the date in the main thread with anticipated meeting times and venues.
