Default New head light bulbs?

although the rest of my car is notoriously dirty my lights are always washed, but recently i have noticed that when they are dipped it is terrible. i have had my winter service and they work and have new bulbs, the settings are correct too but i think i need something brighter (scooby rock and andy s and paulthejambo have brill lights). are mine just typically bad or is is just my eyes???

nope, you need some propper bulbs or a HID kit that paul has, they aren't cheap though!

better bulbs start from about 15/pair, HID's are about 90 +, but they are a good move considering the street lighting in the sticks! you can always take them out of this and transfer to another car in the future

A word of warning....CLICKY

If your headlight unit is designed for halogen, it is illegal to fit HID's !

I uprated my Fabia bulbs to Philips Extreme +80% recently and they are very good indeed, but the headlight lens and reflector are superb anyway. Our Octavia headlights were woeful as they have projector lenses, but even they were made much better just with the Philips bulbs. £26 delivered off eBay.

Thats just Autocar getting on there high horse!!

If they are fitted and the beam pattern is scattered them you do have a problem as ir will fail an MOT

My JDM has HID's as factory fit from japan but my beam has been scattered since i got the car!! its been in for its first MOT today and the standard Subaru mounting hole for the HID bulbs was too small!!! and the bulb was sat at an angle!!! a bit of quick work with a dremmel and the bulbs no sit home perfectly and no more scatted beam

That's the point they're trying to make, HID's fitted as standard with properly designed mountings, lenses and reflectors are superb, but people are fitting HID kits to headlight units designed for halogen bulbs and the results are unpredictable and potentially dangerous, hence possibly illegal. As for the Scoob lights being badly manufactured, only one place to lay blame there.

Not sure if the ebay ones are as good as the group buy ones though, some have a cheaper ballast that fail

They can be illegal, but at least you will see, takes 5 mins to change back for the MOT

the guy on the group buy is an ebay seller for the same kit!!

And the BoschHid ones are nothing to do with the real Bosch, they are currently in a court battle that the real Bosch will win!!!

Yes thats why they need to be checked after! quite alot are ok in a halogen housing!!

Also if they are a new fit they should have auto-aligning motors fitted to them and should have head light cleaners! that is law

mine has the auto aligners but no cleaners, but being factory fit before the law i get away with it, thats why the hawk eyes have headlamp washers

Just because it passes an MOT does not mean it is legal!

most of us run round decatted, which is also illegal but MOT stations pass them

if you get caught you have not a leg to stand on!

You just have to work out if its worth the risk!!

After all its not like you have murdered someone is it LOL

Althought the police are now in the mind it is!!!

you can now have your car confiscated for driving with your mobile and heavy fines possible 2 year ban!! and if you batter someone you worst case will get a suspended sentance and a small fine!
