Unhappy The Chiefs 'D' Day - and the future of my Scoob

Well today i will find out whether my engine problem is a cam belt tensioner or the dreaded Big end failure.

If it is big end failure then i will have the repairs then maybe sell my car i simply cannot risk it going again. as much as i love my Subaru (and i do love it) i cannot face the thought of another major failure or having to fork out 2-3k for an engine rebuild.

I simply do not know what any other options are open to me - it is sat on my drive worthless with 7 grand outstanding on it and a 2-3 grand repair bill.

To say i'm a little p****d off and low is an understatement.

Unlucky mate. You've always wanted to go for a 2.5, and this is the perfect excuse. And it will be something different. But then again you do seem to suffer from verbal diarriaha

Chris, He's just done his front pads and discs. And some eibach springs.

It's a pity your first scooby ownership has turned into a nightmare Carl, I can attest to the fact that these are strong cars and don't usually have such troubles, looks like the previous owner was less than meticulous with upkeep
So, what are you options:
1/ fix the cars engine in now
2/ drop a 2.5 in
3/ sell up and lose a packet
4/ get it stolen

Not choices I'd like to have to make m8, but you've got my full support in whatever you decide.

chris.

Lest just say it will save me modding it anyway

Sorry to hear the bad news about your engine chief.

How much would it cost if you were able to get a refurbished engine? I guess most of the money is spent on the labour for replacement of the engine though.

So sorry to hear about the engine Carl, if you get it fixed properly it will probably last for years and be an excellent base for future mods
If you decide to go for a rebuild I have started using a very reasonably priced Subaru specialist, let me know if you want his number

Sorry to hear Carl I am gutted for you, As chris states your options

1/ fix the cars engine in now-

not sure I would do this as some thing must of caused it and it may well be still there

2/ drop a 2.5 in

expensive option but one hel of a car afterwoods, I would highly recomend getting the suspension and brakes done at the same time!

3/ sell up and lose a packet

Silly option as you will get hardly anything for her with a sick engine

4/ get it stolen

LOL but it will affect your no claims!

I have a possible 5th option
a 2.0litre STi 8 engine from theses guys http://www.apiengines.com/index2.php

Give them a bell as they do recon as well I dont know of there prices but there are good recomendations on here

Cheers and Good Luck Andy
