I had a think about the badges yesterday. I was initially all for the idea, but as everyone in the SMACS is now sporting a very nice web address or SMACS motif, I don't see the point In our dedicated forum, there really would be no point. What do others think? On numbers, we've met and exceeded the amount set for a badge, which was 40 people, but whether those 40 would pay for a badge is another matter.

I thought this myself last week - i was unaware though that we would have to pay for a badge though. We could carry on as we are and anything that we wished to discuss is private maybe we could have a password protected forum on our new super dooper website!!!

A badge would be good, but not really needed now we have the club name in our profiles. And IF we get our own section, then people will know about us as well.
We should do our own forum on our website, so we can discuss things between just us.
I've done a forum for me and my mates using http://invisionfree.com/. Dead easy to use. It has open sections and private sections. If you need a hand with anything chris, give me a shout.
The new site is looking good

Website needs the new SMACS logo on it and not the old one. I can sent the original files to whoever wants them or re-size them to suit any page size.

Glad your all liking the new website A massive thanks to mykp and steelx for all thier work in the background to get this re-done. Mykp has worked almost exclusively on the site for the last few weeks, transferring everything over from my poor effort on the old site, and finding software and solutions for the new one Don't forget to thanks them at the meet next week!
Some of you are requesting a private forum for us, here are some of my thoughts on that:
We have easy access to our own forum already, as steelx has hosted one for us before, back in the previous height of the club in 2003. Once we started using it though, we almost dissapeared off the face of scoobynet which meant no new members.
At the moment, people coming to the northern forum of scoobynet will see a large posting by smacs members, and on closer investigation, will find our new website and hopefully come to a meet If we had our own forum, we wouldn't have as big a presence on scoobynet, and so less people coming to visit.
I setup the email distribution list with the express intention of it being used for private announcements, so check your email regulaly as I notice a number of you have provided a "free" hotmail/yahoo ect account. I don't check my free account that often
I personally don't like posting on many forums, and scoobynet serves my purposes well, by having another forum, if I need to ask a life changing question, I have to make a double post, then track 2 lots of answers, which would probably be the same anyway!
And finally, moderation. Who want to moderate our new forum? I know I don't have time for it, it's taking me a lot of spare time at the moment keeping track of all the smacs threads on scoobynet, which I'm happy to do But to then add on moderation of a private forum and replying to pm's and threads on our own forum! Crickey, not enough hours in the day!
So, I'm not going to say "never", but I am going to suggest we keep everything on scoobynet for now. If we continue to grow at this rate, it won't be long before we get our "smacs" section on scoobynet, with it's own moderators and other areas to look at, which I'm happy with. For any private announcements, use the distribution list we're all on

I agree with Chris on the private Forum.Wouldn't have found you myself without going on here first.
New site looks great. Will be easier to look at Vids and photos once all up and running.

I tend to agree with Chris about not having a forum on SMACS. Its probabley better just have our own forum on scoobynet then SMACS will continue to command a presence. I wouldn't have discovered SMACS and joined if it hadn't have been for the scoobynet presence. Im sure the same can be said of many new members.

Oh and on the forum front, having already discussed this with Chris in the past, I think its sensible to stick with the one forum approach until we are able to get our own SMACS one on Scoobynet.
