WYIOC Rallydrive trackdays - When do you want 'em ????
I'm gonna contact Howard next week to arrange some dates. Just need to know off the regular attendees what you want !
I was thinking one late April/early May, and a second in late September. Enough ? or do we want more ?
Open for discussion.......

Don't worry mate.. middle exec will have wait. I've been looking at a nice house up at Calderdale... This will definately eat into my car money.. so the T25 will have to wait.. maybe second hand Spec C now.... but we'll see.
I'm not moving from Scoobs...
1. Katrina and the Kids won't let me...
2. How can I possibly still be Chairman if I turn up with a M3? Sticky's pending take over bid will be made that much easier..
3. I love the car too much at the mo... It may even mean keeping mine and spending a few grand at the clinic.. (this bit does actually sound appealing..)

I know ive mentioned this before but can we not look at possible alternative tracks to rally drive. I only mention as i was truly unhappy with some of the huge pot holes around the track on our last visit and as you all know im not too good at avoiding things at speed .

Mick. A good point mate, and one raised before. I think Dave will confirm that it's down to cost, ease of use and being able to do our own thing on the day..
Anything else WILL be more expensive and usually tighter run and controlled.
Ian's post for the day at Elvington in may costs £95 and Spen555 said that the condition wasn't too different to Rallydrive. Silverstone or other 'proper' tracks are going to cost you £200- 300(?) with plenty of guidelines...
I hear what you're saying, especially as I shredded my nearly dead tyres on the last one, but I honestly don't think we'll get anything better for the money..
Best thing I see is getting a knackered set of alloys (a one off £50?) and some tyres (free from some garages as they have to pay to have them taken away - a quote from Motorsport wheels in Seacroft) and get them fited for £20-30 and you'll still have a damn sight cheaper day...
Regardless of where you go, you'll knacker the tyres.. maybe Rallydrive gets them that way quicker because it is a harsher surface.....
Unless anyone else knows of a cheaper track day? I'd be suprprised..

Alan,
I know exactly what you mean, I just wondered if there were any small tarmac tracks anyone knows of, this woulld of course still shred the tyres but they would last longer than the 12 laps i managed last time before totally ripping the tyre. But if its what weve got then so be it, Im still looking forward to the next one.

You're right Steve it has. However, Rallydrive is different as it's a rally car proving ground with no mind to what's the surfce condition is like. Rougher the better really and it actually has some rolled concrete 'kerbs' to upset the handling so it's not bad because of poor upkeep, it's poor because that helps.
It's not THAT bad however and at £20-30 for the whole day, certainly has some benefits.
As long as you're aware that it's like that then you use the circuit to take advantage of the fact.

Don't worry about the potholes, my Lord. I have a cunning plan.
It's a plan so feindish in it's simplicity that you could stick a sugar coated shell on it and call it a turnip
[/baldrick]
Seriously, there is a quite simple solution to the pothole problem.
I'll be up for them whenever, so long as (1) She'll let me borrow the car, (b) I can get me mitts on some of Al's freebie tyres and a cheapo set of alloys, and (4) I can get the car there in the first place!

Steve. Motorposrt Wheels' site - http://www.mswuk.com/They're the ones who did my 4x T1-S's for a damn good price. We started talking about track tyres after they commented on the state of my front's which was a day or two after the track day..
As they were fitting, a guy turns up in an old van to take away a load of old ones. Upshot is they pay him about a £1 a tyre to take them away.
They said we'd save them money by taking some sets away.. some of them looked better than what I've driven on in the past! Give them a call and see if they've got your size in.. bit of a chance mind.. but you never know. I think they'll charge about £30 to fit and balance them too....
Let us know how you get on..

Just to update people, I've eMail'd Howard with a couple of suggested dates, namely saturday 26th April, and saturday 1st October. I have also suggested that if the take-up is strong and there is enough interest then I may insert a 3rd in June/July.

Well, I've just spent ages typing a post for this thread and it's disappered into the SN Triangle!!!
I'm not typing it all again, so here's (probably mercifully ) the short version...
We need deposits!
Due to large numbers of people saying they were coming and then not turning up on both previous occasions, we MUST insist on deposits this time.
We should have a good idea of the individual costs within a couple of weeks, so can I suggest that payment based on those figures be made IN FULL two weeks before the booked dates, with the possibility of a refund should more folk wish to join in later. This way, if you don't show the only person suffering is you!
Dave and Al both did a sterling job of sorting out the dosh on the last two occasions, but I'm sure they'd rather be driving / passengering / talking cars, than acting as WYIOC Cash Collector.
Just my opinion, thoughts?
Andy

Thanks Andy. I did type something to that effect, but deleted it so as not to sound too imposing or mercenary whilst trying to organise what is a fun event. The last one in September was especially bad for last minute drop-outs, and the situation was made worse by my unfortunate absence due to holidays. Al held the fort, but no matter which of us, it was not fair, and from now on I will be insisting on a deposit to secure places, which will be non-refundable after the date which I secure the booking with my (quite considerable) deposit out of my own pocket.
I have had word back, and the October 1st date is almost certain, but 26th March is a little dodgy, and may end up being on April 2nd. Once I have these two confirmed I will open threads in Northern, Trackdays & Events and on SIDC, 22b, WYIOC & WR1OC and depending on the level of interest we'll consider one in June/July.

Good points mate..
Though I didn't mind sorting out & collecting the money & running parts of the day.. it was the pain of collecting the money and chasing those people who didn't turn up (for various reasons) on the day...
This chasing was needed otherwise Dave would have been down a £100 or more.. This is partly down to the flexible, trusting and freeflow way the day's arranged... I think this is brilliant and ensures that everyone has a good relaxing and enjoyable day, but as we start the third one, some areas need to be tightened up.. especially on the finance side....
So I agree. Some items for the club to discuss...
Edited to say... I agree with Dave too.

So I agree. Some items for the club to discuss...
- Names taken on the thread should only be added to the list when they have paid a deposit...
- Full amount to be calculated on 20 with Max number 30? This should help ensure we have the flexibility to cost for the lower amount. This shouldn't be more than £35 anyway if the numbers stay roughly the same from last time...
- The deposit and full amount will be calculated when Dave has a revised figure from Howard...
- Full amount should be paid two weeks in advance (per Sticky's suggestion)
- Extra lessons (if available) also to be paid in advance...
- Deposits should be non refundable if the driver pulls within an agreed timeframe (2 weeks as suggested by Sticky) remaining up to full amount can be refunded...
- Firm up that the second driver in same car pays 50%
- Spectators pay to attend (as usual)
- Minimal rules apply as always
- MANDATORY Track walk before running to ensure it is safe and free from FOD (Foreign Object Damage - RAF term but definately applies)!!!!
Edited to say... I agree with Dave too.
