Thanks to all the people I met down at the Walton Arms the other night for making a newbie feel welcome, and for helping me diagnose the engine trouble I arrived with!

Turned out the problem was a duff coil pack. CAS in Ellesmere port (thanks for the recommendation Julian) sorted it and supplied a second hand pack for £20, can't argue with that.
